I’m having a late breakfast by myself when Aeliana walks into the room. “Good morning,” she greets, her voice a little hoarse but she seems more energetic today.

“Good morning,” I say, watching her. Her hair is washed, styled in a messy bun above her head, and she’s wearing a new robe. “Lillian,” I call out to the maid who just served. “Come and serve Luna Aeliana!”

“I’m good,” she smiles. “I can do it myself.”

“Nevermind,” I call out to Lillian, my eyes shifting back to Aeliana.

She pulls out a chair and sits, her nose crinkling when she does. “Some storm last night huh?”

She nods, serving herself.

I’ve been trying to connect with Aeliana, but it’s proving to be hard, more so because she hasn’t interacted with me as much lately. “I couldn’t sleep, I was watching some fashion show and picking out what I’m spending Rowan’s money on next.” I tell her, “What about you?”

Her eyes meet mine, and she shakes her head. “Nothing,” she says, the lie rolling off her tongue a little too easily, but she can’t hide the way her cheeks flush at my question.

Audrey was bitching to her best friend on the phone earlier about Kingston sleeping in her room, and while I didn’t see him just yet, I know he has something to do with her energetic essence today.

I check my phone when I hear it ring, but so does she, hers turns out to be the one ringing. She answers it and puts it on speaker, taking a sip of her orange juice.

A loud voice comes through, “My Ellie, are you awake now?” She asks.

Noah. I remember her, my husband has been getting calls for two days now about changes she wants at work from her superiors, and since they couldn’t get through to Alpha Kingston, they call Rowan.

“Yes honey,” she smiles. “I’m finally out of bed, and I’m having breakfast right now.”

“Eat a lot,” she answers. “We’re going house hunting today.”

Aeliana pauses, “House hunting?”

“I can’t stay at the VU educators compound,” Noah whines, the irritation in her voice evident and loud. “I need..”

“Freedom? Quiet? A sanctuary?”

“Yes!” She screams. “I need a fun little place nearby, near you…

Aeliana nods, “Alright, my honey. I’ll pick you up and we can-”

“No need,” she says, “I will come to you, I’m already on my way. I’m driving over.”

“You have a car?” Aeliana gasps, and I almost gasp too. The girl has been in Mooncrest all of four days and she already bought herself a car and decided the teachers’ compound is no place she wants to be.

Noah laughs on the other end. “Yes, bought a 2020 convertible but don’t laugh, it’s a starting point. Very soon I’ll upgrade to the car of my dreams.”

Noah blows kisses of her own before the call dies out, and she sighs, stacking more bacon onto her plate. “Dani, have you been house hunting?”

“No,” I slowly shake my head. “I’ve shopped for everything but a house. I lived with my parents in their packhouse, and now I live here, in your packhouse”

She nods, “Right, you’re the Alpha’s daughter.”

“Former Alpha’s daughter,” I sigh. “The current Alpha has no children, and if he doesn’t find his mate, I might as well be his successor.”

“Alpha Danielle,” she smiles. “Nice ring to it.” She says. “I wonder which neighbourhood has vacant spaces,” she hums. “I should call mom before I leave.”

Alpha Kingston enters the room, eyes flickering between us. “Going somewhere?”

“Yeah,” she quietly says. “Noah and I are going house hunting.”

“Why wasn’t she staying at VU?” He asks.
