Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 135

Chapter 135

KINGSTON

I’m half asleep when my phone starts ringing, the ringing doesn’t affect me, not until I receive a call from Aeliana’s number. I know it’s her because I have a specific ringtone for her and the sound is enough to jolt me awake.

I quickly reach for my phone and press it to my ear. Could she want something? “Hello?” I groan, pressing the phone to my ear.

The voice that comes through is not hers, it’s far from female. “Yo, Alpha Kingston.’

“Damien?” I frown.

“Yeah, I’ve been calling you for a long time now.” He says, his voice barely audible. “Why aren’t you answering my calls?”

“I’m asleep, prick, it’s what people do at night.” I groan, sitting up. “What are you doing here?” I snap, he better not have woken Aeliana from her sleep.

He laughs, “I’m not in your house, I’m at Rivers.”

At Rivers?

I slowly pull the phone away and check it, Aeliana’s name flashes on the screen. “That’s Aeliana’s phone.

“Yeah, I know.” He says. “We are together at Rivers, she’s been here for a while now.”

I pause.

When I asked for Aeliana after I arrived, Lexie told me she was asleep, and didn’t want to be bothered. Had she woken up and gone to the club? God, that’s worrying. Is she unable to live without having a night out?

Damien’s voice reels me back into reality. “I was going to hire a rideshare, but she’s in no state to be with a stranger.” He tells me, and before he can say anything else, I’m already out of bed, scrambling in my closet for a shirt. “Can you pick her up? She’s very drunk right now, her friend is drunk too, and they drove here. Hurry up,” he says, his voice growing panicked. “I need to go home, but as her brother-in-law, I can’t leave her here alone with these vultures.”

“I’ll be there in twenty,” I tell him, jogging down the stairs.

Damien grunts on the other end, “Twenty? For crying out loud, drive safe, you maniac, she’s safe.”

“And she better stay that way,” I warn.

“Yes, Sir.” He says, “I know protocol.”

Protocol.

He means to say pack laws state that any and everyone in the pack has a responsibility towards the Luna, they need to lay down their lives for her if necessary because it’s assumed she could be carrying an heir at any moment. But Aeliana isn’t officially Luna, and she’s drinking her heart out every night so I can best assume she’s not pregnant.

I violate about six traffic rules to get to Damien’s club faster, I don’t understand why she had Lexie lie to me about her whereabouts and I doubt she understands the risk that comes with it.

Rivers is less crowded tonight, but the music is just as loud. I try to call Damien but he doesn’t answer his phone, prompting me to look for Aeliana alone. There are hundreds of people here, spotting a woman is no sport, half the crowd is men.

My eyes scan the room, my heart hammering against my chest with each passing second that I don’t see her. I try to scent her but like always, she’s holding. A trick I taught her is now being used to torture me daily. Not scenting her when I walk into a room I know she’s in is agonising.

Someone taps me on the shoulder, and I turn to find Damien who points to the middle of the room. “She’s committed to the dance floor.”
