Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 139

Chapter 139

KINGSTON

The next morning, I wake to the sound of someone puking. It doesn’t take long for me to realise that it’s Aeliana once I feel how empty my arms are. I walk over to her bathroom door, trying to push it open, but it seems to be locked.

I hear her again, this time, the sound strangled. “Aeliana?” I call to her, knocking on the door. She doesn’t answer, all that comes through is the sound of her emptying her stomach in what sounds nothing short of painful. “Ellie,” I call again.

She coughs, “Just a moment..” she says, proceeding to heave again.

I immediately mind link Maddox, unaware of the time. Thankfully, he’s open and alert. “I need you to bring Aeliana something for her hangover.”

Maddox lets out a heavy sigh, “Is this what I’ve been reduced to? I need to go back to Jaxon.”

“Tough luck,” I sneer. “You’re mine for the next three months, and you’re going to make a ton of hangover antidotes because your Luna likes to drink herself to oblivion.”

“Seems like a ‘you’ need to handle it problem,” he tells me.

“I know, and I’ll handle it. But hurry up with your tonic, she’s throwing up.”

“On it,” he says, more serious now. “Get some food in her first, I’ll send it up shortly.”

I knock on the door again, closing the link with Maddox. She has stopped vomiting, but it’s now silent, too silent. “Are you okay in there?”

“Yes!”

“Open the door,” I say, unable to take her word for it.

“I can’t,” she burts out. “I-I…well, I am-I’m in the shower.” She stutters.”I’m taking a shower.”

A shower?

“Alright,” I nod to myself. I don’t understand her, she doesn’t want to see me, and yet when she is drunk, being close to me is all she desires. “I’ll be back shortly, okay?”

“Okay!” She yells back. And only then do I hear the sound of water running.

I leave, taking a short trip to the kitchen and asking Lexie to make breakfast for Aeliana, right before I head upstairs to take a quick bath myself. I don’t linger in my room, I quickly throw on casual and comfortable clothing then head back to Aeliana’s room.

Rowan catches me by the staircase, “Oh good, you’re ready to go.” He says, staring me up and down.

I pause, “Go?”

“Did you forget that we have to find a moonstone for tomorrow?”

“Right,” I nod. It completely slipped my mind that we had to find a few raw moonstones for the ceremony

tomorrow. Somehow, finding sapphire was easier, it’s quality is impeccable, and the moonstone needs to match that. “Just give me a few minutes.”

Rowan groans in disapproval, “Kingston.”

“I just need to check on Aeliana for a bit.”

“What happened?”

“Nothing, she’s just hungover.” I sigh. “She had a wild night at Rivers.”

“I know,” Rowan nods. “I was there picking up Dani, and she refused to come home with us.”

“And you didnt think to tell me?” I frown. I was here when Rowan arrived with Danielle, it was right before I went up to bed. “I thought she was asleep in her bedroom.”

He shrugs, “Maybe pay better attention to her next time.”

“Should I start tailing her here too?”

“If it’s necessary, why not?” Rowan smirks.

I put a pin on that conversation.

Having someone following her seems like a bad idea, but if she doesn’t learn to communicate with me, I will be left with no other choice. And I don’t want to resort to that choice, a choice that will push her further away from

Aeliana is eating breakfast when I arrive, her door slightly open so I’m guessing Lexie just left. “Hi,” I coo, slowly walking in.

She looks up from her plate, tapping the fork nervously. “Hey.”

“Feeling better?”

She nods, her cheeks flushed. “I’m sorry about last night.”

I sit down beside her, leaving enough room for the gods, as my mom used to call it whenever her sons had a female friend over at our house. “You don’t have to apologise. It’s my job to take care of you.”1

“I can take care of myself,” she counters, a little too quickly and confidently. “I just—”

“You don’t have to.” I interrupt her.

She doesn’t say anything, her gaze drops to the plate in her lap, and she stuffs food in her mouth, chewing slowly.

“Did Maddox bring your remedy?”

“Yes, thank you.” she swallows, “He was particularly helpful, like always.”

I nod, “We had a conversation last night.”

Now, she looks at me, face furrowed with confusion. “Huh?”

“Do you remember saying anything to me?”

“Roughly.”

“About Audrey,” I say, getting straight to the point.

She slaps a hand to her forehead. “Oh God, kill me now.” She whispers, avoiding my gaze.

“No, no. I’m just trying to see if you remember what was said.” I softly say. “Do you, remember that conversation?”

She nods shyly, still refusing to look at me.
