Chapter 138
“Just a little.”
“But you like it when I scream for you.” She says, staring at me, unblinking.
“Yeah,” I swallow, my heart pounding. “Only for me, not the whole house.”
“I’ll be quieter,” she nods, shushing herself. “I don’t want to wake anyone.” She says, her voice lower. “They’ll hate me even more.”
I sit at the edge of the tub, watching her. “They don’t hate you,” I say. But she pins me with a questioning gaze, even drunk she remains cognizant. “They’re warming up to you.”
She scoffs, “Same thing.” she says with an eyeroll. “Are you mad at me?”
“No,” I truthfully say. “I was worried about you, so next time, tell me, okay?”
She reluctantly nods, “Sorry.”
“I’ll prepare your pyjamas, and you finish up, okay?”
“I don’t want to sleep with pyjamas,” she pouts. “I want that.” She says, pointing somewhere behind me.
My gaze shifts, and when I find nothing there, I realise she meant me. “Me?”
“Your shirt,” she laughs.
“My shirt,” I echo, embarrassment washing over me. I really thought she meant she didn’t need pyjamas but just
She nods, “I think it will look better on me.”
That’s all I need to hear, I take it off and throw it over my shoulder, arms crossed over my chest while I watch her finish her bath.
She scrubs herself slowly, eyes shifting to me from time to time, but she doesn’t say anything. I don’t rush her. I wait until she’s done, and then I dry her hair, following the very strict step by step instructions that she gives me.
After that, she slips my shirt on and pulls me to bed with her. “Just stay a while,” she tells me. “Stay until I sleep. Can you do that for me, King?”
My response is instant. “Yes.”
She lies on her side, and I sit beside her, stroking her hair gently. I don’t know what to say, nothing that won’t get me thrown out of her room, so I stay quiet, grateful to be needed by her.
Her breathing slows, quiets, and I convince myself that she’s asleep until she calls my name, surprising me.
“Kingston?” She quietly says, as if to check if I’m still here.
“Yes, Siren?”
After a pregnant pause, she finally speaks. “I don’t like Audrey.”
“I know, Siren,” I tell her, gently brushing my hand over her hair.
She shifts a little, “My Noah is going to kill her.”

I smile, “Oh. That one I didn’t know.”

“My Noah is a sweet girl, she’s just kidding,” she says with a lazy laugh. “But..” she trails off, her body tensing.
I peek at her face, finding her eyes half open, like she could drift off to sleep at any minute. “What’s wrong?” I coo.
Again, she forces a laugh. “It’s stupid.”
“Why don’t you tell me, and let me decide for myself if it’s indeed stupid?”
“Okay,” she nods. “I-I..um, I don’t like it when you’re-I don’t want you with anyone else,” she says. “Like ever. I know it sounds crazy, but I don’t.”
I pause, hardly following. “What do you mean?”
“You and Audrey,” she says, her voice breaking. “I know that she’s what you wanted, and you’re still in love with her, but you can’t do that to me anymore.”
“Siren-”
“You’re too close,” she chokes out. “I don’t like that, can you at least pretend you don’t have a bond with her? Because-because, that’s not fair.” She murmurs, her words slurring, slipping. “She is always clinging to you as if you belong to her, but you don’t, not anymore. You’re my golden honey boy, not hers, right?”
I swallow, “Yes.”
“So stop being hers.”
“I’m not, hers. I belong to you.” I tell her, laying a kiss on her head. “You’re my wife, Ellie. I told you, I will never betray you, or our bond. Audrey is just a friend, it’s all she can be, it’s all she was destined to be.”
Aeliana groans, the sound almost inaudible yet so pained. “No. No. No, friend. Friends have boundaries, friends don’t…friends, they don’t. They… friends. Friends.” She says, the last word barely a whisper.
Again, I peek at her, my stomach churning with crushing realisation. “Si-siren?” I stutter.
She doesn’t answer, she’s knocked out cold, like she was never awake. Did I just have a conversation with a sleeping Aeliana?
Dad was right.
Keeping her and Audrey in the same space is a recipe for disaster. Seeing us be friends hurt her so badly that her subconscious couldn’t hold on any longer.
I kiss her forehead and her breath hitches, still asleep, mumbling now. “I am trying to do whatever you need me to for this relationship to work, Siren,” I promise her.
She might not be awake to hear it, but I mean it. I’m tired of living like strangers, I want to live in her skin, to breathe her in always, but she never lets me. “Kingston,” she murmurs, “King, I don’t like Audrey.” She repeats, “It’s not fair, stop it.”
“I’ll do anything for you, just please talk to me when you feel wronged.” I swallow, a part of me hoping she remembers this conversation tomorrow, even though she appears past out drunk.
It kills me when she punishes me this way.
I know I made a mistake, more than one to be precise, but I’m not going to make that of ruining my marriage after it’s barely begun. I have feelings for Aeliana, feelings that I tried to bury over the years, but they always,
