Chapter 174

KINGSTON

The last week has been hell, I’m running on coffee and the sight of my wife. Nothing motivates me to come home sooner than the image of Aeliana’s smiling face. But today, I couldn’t be so lucky. After spending the night in my room because of how late I returned last night, I couldn’t find her anywhere.

Aeliana sleeps in, and when she doesn’t, she still stays in her room until sometime mid-morning, but today seems to be the exception. I looked everywhere for her, I asked Lexie and she said Aeliana had an early breakfast and said she’d be back by lunch.

That was hours ago, I’ve since tried to contact her but her phone goes unanswered and Noah doesn’t know where she is either, I’m a nervous wreck all day. On our way to the patrol office on the west side, I get a call from the orphanage letting me know they don’t need my mother or me because Aeliana signed for the new donor items that arrived.

The foundation is nowhere near my route, but I somehow convince Rowan to drive by for a few minutes just so I can get my daily dose of Aeliana.

The foundation is the last place I expect to find her, but sister Vivian tells me she’s often there with Noah, and they sometimes drop off stuff for the kids and leave.

I jog inside the little’s play room, my eyes instantly finding her. She’s sitting down on the carpet, staring at a train set with one of the kids. I stalk quietly, shushing the kids who see me. Hushed giggles fill the room, but she doesn’t turn her attention away from the boy she is with. “Very impressive, Calen. You’re going to be the best train driver in all of Mooncrest.”

Calen, the little devil child whom I’ve never seen this well behaved smiles, picking out a train for her. “This is my favourite, but you can have it, because you’re my favourite too, Luna Aeliana.”

“Oh wow, Calen.” I gasp, startling them both.

Aeliana looks up with a smile, but Calen’s smile fades when eyes meet. I crouch down beside Aeliana and ruffle his hair. “How’s it going buddy?”

“Very good.” He says, but his face tells a different story.

I turn my attention to my Luna, “Hi, baby.” I grin, leaning in to kiss her, but my lips are met with a red toy train. My eyes move to the boy attached to the hand holding the train only to find him glaring at me.

“What?”

“You can’t kiss Luna Aeliana.”

“Why not?” I frown.

“Because I’m going to marry her,” he says, his chest puffed, and head high. Calen was rescued from a gang of rouges who were selling children, he didn’t know where he was from, all he knew was that his parents were dead, and they told him to run.

“Really now?”

“Yes,” he confidently affirms. “Show him your ring, Luna Aeliana.”

Aeliana lifts her hand and smiles. Sure enough, on her ring finger, covering the million dollar diamond ring I spent years customising is a paper ring with Calen’s name on it. When I turn to him, he points to the paper crown

on his head that I’m guessing Aeliana made him.

“It’s paper,” I tell him. “I gave her a real diamond.”

“Kingston,” Aeliana warns.
