Chapter 182
“What’s with your sudden territorial nature?” I ask, sitting up so I can see him better.
God, he has the most perfectly symmetrical face.
“Sudden?” He snorts. “I’ve been this way all along, you never noticed because I made sure of it, because it was crazy for me to obsess over my best friend like that, but now, you’re mine in every way, and it’s not crazy.” He says, “I have no reason to hide it.”
My heart drops, in the most flattering way possible. “What do you mean always?”
He pauses, a smile tugging at his lips, but he doesn’t speak yet. He appears to be reminiscing, and I continue to stare at him. “Do you think it’s a coincidence that no boys ever hit on you twice? That they never dared get close?”
Actually, no.
I knew something was wrong, I was often complimented on my looks, so I knew they weren’t an issue yet boys avoided me in the romantic aspect, but Rowan, and King convinced me my brothers were the reason. “That was you? You blamed my brother’s!”
He shrugs, “It was a group effort.” So Maddox, Rowan, and all his other friends were in on it. “I couldn’t stand anyone else touching you, the thought of you on a date sickened me.”
“What about Ashton?” I pause, I did go on one date with him before he left our school.
“He was a bet,” King says, scratching his head. “I had to keep my cool for at least three dates to prove I was not overprotective or possessive over you, but I failed, I cracked. That night when I snuck into your room, you were so excited, you couldn’t stop blushing, and planning your next date with him. I hate to fake a stomach ache, and I went crying to my Mom, bawled like a baby, and it worked.” He smirks, “Ashton’s family moved for a few years.”
I can’t believe it, back then, I didn’t think Kingston felt anything romantic for me. I had the biggest crush on him, but he never showed any interest beyond being friends. “So you made your mom move an entire family because you had a crush on me?”
His face falls, “Don’t insult what I feel for you by calling it a crush.”
“Well, wasn’t it a crush?”
“No, it’s never been.” He swallows. “It’s always been more than that, and it’s simply mutated over the years, but a crush is too measly a word. A crush would mean I would soon forget what I felt.”
I gulp, “But every time someone joked about us being together, you said I was too young.‘
“You were,” he nods. “Our relationship was inappropriate.”
“But our friendship wasn’t?” I snicker,
We did just about everything except for fucking. We kissed about five times. Actually, Eight. I was counting. We cuddled, he let me wear his clothes, he held my hand almost everywhere, and I was often tucked under his arm or Rowan’s.
“I’m older than you, our age gap….‘
“It’s two and a half years.” I frown.
“I know,” he nods. “And I was going to wait until you were at least eighteen before making my move, but you were growing curious, and stubborn, not to mention even prettier.” He says, he appears stressed all over again.”

My threats weren’t cutting it for the boys. They’d have risked broken legs for five minutes with you.”
