Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 193

Chapter 193

Panic flashes in his eyes, and he forces a smile. “You looked happy in your photos.”

“Not the conversation, circle back,” I demand, twirling my finger clockwise. “What do you mean I’ve taken a loving to drinking and smoking?”

“You have been drinking since I left, and I’ve been gone over the last six days-”

“So?” I frown.

He swallows, trying to choose his words carefully, but I’m already raging. “Don’t you think you’re developing a dependency to it? You have more than just a glass daily, and it’s worrisome, Aeli. What if—”

I pause, my ears ringing with alarm at the situation. “Are you trying to say that I’m an alcoholic?” I laugh, the sound bitter and brief.

“No,” he shakes his head. “I just…” he trails off on an unspoken thought. “We can fix this.”

“Fix this?” I scoff, why is he referring to me like I’m a project? How in the world did we wind up here?

With no sense of vigilance, he nods. “Yes, we can get you help, baby.” He says, taking my hand into his. “No one has to know, just tell me what you’ve been taking, and I’ll talk to Maddox about home rehabilitation.”

My mouth hangs open for a moment.

“Rehabilitation?” I slowly repeat, and like an idiot, he freaking nods again, giving me that pitiful stare that makes me want to gouge his eyes out of their sockets. “So let me get this straight, are you trying to get me to confess that I’m addicted to not just to alcohol, but cigarettes too?”

“I don’t want you to be,” he says, his voice low, concerned, but it doesn’t take from how stupid this conversation is, how offensive it is. “But I heard that you’ve been acting differently, I also felt that you were acting a little..”

“Oh my God,” I gasp, the realisation hitting me hard. I’ve been here missing him, missing the feel of sleep, and the entire time, he was talking to his precious golden girl. “I know,” I nod to myself. “It’s Audrey, isn’t it?”

“No,” he blurts out. “This has nothing to do with her, it’s about you.” He says, but I see through his lie. No one in this house has been poking in my business more than her. “It’s about you, if something is bothering you, we can work it out, you don’t have to take anything, just think of what happened before, your dad-”

The straw that broke the camel’s back.

I take a step back, my neck twitching.

His words cut deep, reopening old wounds. Until now, he was the one person who didn’t speak to me about the past, not even by accident and now, he chooses a sore spot? “I was not on any drugs!” I snap, my voice trembling.

His face falls, he doesn’t believe me, no one ever did. “You tested positive, three times. I’m just trying to help you, baby.” He says, “Drugs end so many lives, they ruin lives, and I don’t want that for us-for you. You deserve so much better.”

Better?

What the hell does he know about me? About those stupid tests? If I deserved better he would have given me the benefit of the doubt. If I deserved better, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. If I deserved better, he wouldn’t be talking to Audrey about me behind my back. “Fuck you Kingston,” I snarl, the backstabbing nearly knocking me off my feet, but I stand steady.

I’ve been here before, all that’s missing is for him to hit me, and call me a disgrace like the whole pack did while I was breaking inside, while I was grieving everything that I lost. “I’m not an idiot so stop trying to talk down on me while pretending that you care about me!” I grit through my teeth, trying not to cry but the tears come fast, heavy. “I was the one who got my stepbrother into rehab for his coke addiction, I was the one who found him lying half dead at the campgrounds.” I remind him. He was the first person I called when I found him, and I vowed never to try drugs. “I have never willingly put anything in my system.”
