Chapter 195
KINGSTON
Fucked up is an understatement.
I’m still feeling woozy from seeing Aeliana bleed when I slide onto the floor, clutching the family relic she just ruined herself with. Rowan is sitting beside me, his legs stretched out, and his arms crossed over his bare chest. We sit in silence for a while, and when he finally speaks, his tone is heavy with disappointment. “You fucked up,” he says, without asking what happened. I know that seeing us like that gave the wrong idea, I was holding the weapon she hurt herself with while she bled and cried.
I nod, “I know.”
“What did you say to her?”
I swallow. “I wanted to help, I wanted to be there for her, but like always, I said the wrong thing.” I sigh, recounting the last couple of minutes to him.
Rowan shakes his head, “You saw her passed out next to a bottle of wine and thought it was a good idea to accuse her of being an alcoholic? King, the woman might drink, but she can do without it.” He sighs. “Even if an addiction is building, you chose the wrong approach, Aeliana hurt herself because of something that you said,” he says, his tone quiet, and brutal.
“I was scared, Rowan. I didn’t want to believe it, but then she hasn’t been herself at all. After hearing from Lexie and Audrey, I panicked.” I swallow, “I didn’t want to lose her, what was I supposed to do? She doesn’t talk to me, and I’m trying Rowan, but Hartley fucked her up so bad it takes so much just to get an honest reaction out of her.”
“Well, you got one. She bled to prove a point. Are you satisfied now?”
“Rowan.”
“Look at you, you’re shaking because she hurt herself.” He says, eyes dropping to the stained pin in my hand. ” You had a lot of time to think of how it is that you would approach the situation before she arrived, and you still fucked up. Aeliana isn’t stupid, and neither is Noah. Noah doesn’t do drugs, and they’re always together, so where would Aeliana get them?”
“I don’t know!” I snap. “I was simply worried she was going down the wrong road again.”
“She was a kid, kids do stupid things, but she’s grown now. If she were using you, you would have noticed that, you don’t give her a chance to breathe, you’re always rubbing against the woman at any and every given chance.” He reminds me. “A drug habit is not something that she can hide so easily, and when you thought even for a second she was using again? You made her feel like she’s still the girl everyone gave up on. Like she still has to prove her worth to not just the pack but to you.”
“She hurt herself,” I repeat, unable to get past that bit. I don’t think I’ll ever get that image out of my head, the way she didn’t flinch or tremble horrified me.
“Yeah,” Rowan nods. “Dani used to do that,” she says, his voice strangled. “She would hurt herself when she felt she’d lost control and that’s exactly how Aeliana felt. She struggles with her emotions so she wanted to feel pain she could control.” He says quietly, speaking from experience. His mate was an absolute mess when he found her, Dani would often hurt herself whenever she felt hurt or cornered. “Because the pain your distrust was too vast.”
I try to get up, but he yanks my hand down. I need to hold her, to tell her how sorry I am, how stupid I was, I want to be with her right now. “Sit down,” Rowan nods to the floor. “She needs to cool down.”

“What if she hurts herself again?”
“She won’t” he says, his words too confident for my liking. After what I saw? I can’t put it past her. “And she also won’t let you anywhere close right now because the last time she let you close, you looked at her like she was lying. And honestly, you deserve this right now. Regardless of her past, you were to believe her, Aeliana is your Luna, and you’re not getting anywhere close to home with trusting each other.”
Trust?
No addict admits to using, I would hate to sit around while she wasted her life because I trusted her over the warning signs. “Row, you know how much I love her,” I choke out, my voice splintering into pieces. “I wish my love was enough for both of us, but I’m always on thin ice with her. Everything I do is because I care about her, but by some fucked up luck? I hurt her again, and again, and she won’t even let me fix it.”
“And how exactly will you fix this? I doubt flowers will fix any of that, and your communication seems to have a brick barrier.”
“What do you think I should do?”
He shrugs, “Let her sleep it off? I don’t know, man. But she will come around, if..” he pauses, his eyes distant now. “That’s the last time I ever sleep during the day.” He groans, “Dani can’t sleep and wants to go for a run. You should come with us, it’ll do you some good to shift, and possibly hunt?” He jokes, offering me a half smile. “ She might forgive you if you show up with a deer between your teeth.”
I shake my head.
Rowan taps my shoulder in consolation and leaves. I spend the rest of my night outside of Aeliana’s room, I can hear her shuffling inside, the sound of things smashing on the floor and after a while, everything goes quiet, and I stop begging her to open the door.
When morning comes, Lexie wakes me by knocking on the door, Aeliana doesn’t open the door, she simply tells her she will be down for breakfast.
