Chapter 206

KINGSTON

Ever since I brought up the idea of going to Hartley residence for dinner, Aeliana has been nothing short of a mess. Excuses here, there, she fakes a stomach ache, sore muscles, and even tries to seduce me so we could stay inside.

I’m an easy man whore when it comes to her, but I didn’t give in tonight, I stood on the promise I made Pandora yesterday. I try my best to decline any and every invite to their house, and I’ve ensured Pandora is too busy to visit my wife because of the obvious anxiety she causes her, but I couldn’t say no this time.

Seraphine and her husband are returning, and they would like to celebrate their return. And while I’d rather be cooped up in the house with my wife, I reckon I have to give in sometimes. They barely see her, and in their own fucked up way, they love her. Personally, no child of mine would be shunned from the family over stupid mistakes, but each to their own I guess.

They’d better enjoy these three hours I’m giving them tonight, because Aeliana will not step foot in their house for months again, unless she chooses, which is highly unlikely. Most women, Danielle for example would threaten to return to their parents’ house after slight arguments, but not once has Aeliana threatened me that way. Not because she’s mature, but because she doesn’t feel safe or at home in their house anymore.

The day she realises the new set of parents she gained would torch my ass for her happiness, it’s over for me, and my mom will love every second of hosting her.

Aeliana hasn’t said a word since she got in the car, she’s been quiet, hardly excited to see her sister again. I’ve seen her have more enthusiasm over a cup of iced water. Audrey on the other hand is thrilled. Her joy has known no bounds and as Seraphine’s best friend, she’s always been invited to all family gatherings.

“Can I play some music, Kingy?” Audrey asks, breaking the silence in the car.

I’m about to tell her yes because the silence is haunting, but Aeliana speaks. “What was that?”

“Can I play some music?” Audrey repeats, sounding rather unsure this time.

Aeliana nods, “Of course you can, but let’s not get casual again.”

“Aeliana,” I sigh. I can easily tell she’s looking for a reason to bolt, and Audrey is obliviously laying the trap pretty thick.

She shifts in her seat, arms crossed over her chest in protest. “Pretend I’m not even here.”

“But you are here, baby,” I say, reaching for her hand with my free one. Our fingers entwine, and I kiss her hand, expecting some sort of warmth, but she stays staring at the road. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” she shrugs, trying to pull her hand away from mine, but I hold on tight.

“Are you sure?” I pause, interrupted by the soft music from Audrey’s phone.

Aeliana nods, giving me a smile before nodding to the road where I should be focused. “Yeah, just tired.”

“I’ll give you a massage when we get home, okay?”

“Great, something to look forward to.” She says, her tone more lively now. “I’m going to have fun with that.”

“Dinner will be great too,” Audrey chimes in. Her voice startles me, I had forgotten she was there. “Your sister just returned from her honeymoon, it would be rude if you were not present. Just think of it, had it not been for Seraphine’s wedding, you wouldn’t have had the best night of your life-finding your mate.” She says, her tone

bitter when she says mate, but when I look in the mirror, I see her grinning.

“You don’t know what that night was like for me, so keep quiet if all you have are suppositions.”
