Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 208

Chapter 208

“Oh dear,” Pandora winces. “I’ll get someone to clean it up.”

“Come meet my husband,” Seraphine giggles. “You didn’t get a chance to meet him at the wedding.”

Aeliana stands frozen, but her husband moves fast, grinning from ear to ear. “Luna Aeliana, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He says, “Please accept these flowers as a token of my gratitude for such a wonderful night.” He says, offering her a bouquet of odd flowers, not just one but several types.

Aeliana reaches for the bouquet with wide eyes, but I drop her hand when I notice the snapdragons peaking out.” She’s allergic to snapdragons,” I gritt through my teeth, annoyed that he thought to bring my mate—my wife flowers.

Sure, his wife, Audrey, and Pandora all have flowers, even Oakley, but he shouldn’t be giving my wife any flowers, much less those that might make her break out in hives. “Apologies, sister-in-law. Sera, mind trading flowers with your sister?”

“Babe, these are my favourite flowers.” Seraphine whines, holding her white roses to her chest.

“I don’t need flowers,” Aeliana chokes out, scratching her arm. The act has me glaring at her brother-in-law now. The mere proximity to the flowers has filled her with goose bumps.

“Well, let’s sit.” Gamma Hartley says, taking his place at the head of the table.

I guide Aeliana to the table, sitting her beside me and next to her other sister, Oakley who seems like a safer option because she’s not very chatty. Audrey and Seraphine sit next to each other. Dinner is soon served, and Pandora makes sure Aeliana’s favourite dish is on the table, despite not knowing which one it is. Everyone is focused on the newlyweds, which seems to include us. For every question they ask Seraphine and Brandon, they ask us a few too.

Aeliana is awfully quiet, she doesn’t laugh at any childhood memory, she doesn’t contribute to the conversation, and when spoken to she answers in short clipped responses. I do hold her hand under the table, offering her the comfort my words can’t. This must be upsetting, Pandora is doting on her daughter, praising her endlessly while Aeliana gets backhanded compliments from not just her, but her siblings too.

“You okay, baby?” I lean into her, whispering so only she can hear. “We can leave right now, just the word.”

She nods, offering me a half smile. “I’m fine.” She whispers, kissing my cheek.

I nod, falling into conversation with Gamma Hartley and Gareth, the man has no idea how much I despise him. He could have been a better brother to Aeliana, but somehow he gravitated towards Seraphine and treated her like she was the outsider.

“Kingston,” someone calls. I look up to find Audrey by the door, holding her phone against her chest. “Can we talk? It’s sort of an emergency.”

The first thing I do is turn to Aeliana, and she nods, her expression unreadable. “Go.”

“Are-”

“I trust you to keep your hands to yourself and use your lips only for talking.” She whispers.

I nod, placing a kiss on her forehead as I rise to go. “You got it.” I wink.

Audrey drags me to the staircase, checking around for listening ears. “What happened?” I ask, pulling away from her touch. If Aeliana scents her on me, I’m dead.

“It’s Vittoria.” She says quietly. My youngest sister, who is currently at boarding school at a certain school in a neighbouring pack. “She asked me to go and get her, she messed up really badly.”

“What did she do this time?” I groan. Vittoria is a little version of Damien, always out for trouble, and the last time she got into trouble, she was sent to the boarding school as punishment.

“She didn’t give me exact details but she’s in Mooncrest right now. They’ve detained her and a few kids at a West End patrol station and she doesn’t want anyone to know so she called me. But I thought to let you know before I went to get her.”

“For fucks sake,” I groan. “Give me a minute, I’ll get her.”

“She called me, Kingston. She wants me, I can’t let her down.”

I sigh. “Okay, just…let me talk to my wife first.”

That girl will drive my parents to an early grave and every time I hear about her antics, I feel grey hairs sprouting. Between her, Damien and Aeliana? God help me, I might not live long.

“Siren,” I return to my seat.

She pauses, “What’s wrong? Did something happen?”

“Everything okay, Alpha Kingston?” Gamma Hartley asks, even after I’ve repeatedly asked him not to address me that way.

“Mini Damien-I mean Vittoria…thought it was a good idea to sneak into Mooncrest with her friends, and now she’s being detained,” I tell them my head spinning already. “She called Audrey for help.”

“Oh,” Aeliana whispers.

“What point?” Gamma Hartley, “I’ll have them drop her off safely at the school.”

“I’ll fetch her,” I say.

“You should go, Alpha Kingston. It’s getting pretty late.” Brandon says. “It’s raining, and if they do release her she will wander the streets. The streets are unfriendly to pretty little girls, right sister-in-law?”
