“Forget me.”

She pauses, her eyes widening. “What?”

“Forget you and I had something romantic. Could you do that? Because only after you’ve learned to move on will I be happy.”

For a moment, she just stares, not at me but at nothing. Her eyes are blank, like she isn’t here, almost like she’s disassociated, but then she nods, smiling. “Yes, if that’s what you want then I’ll do it.”

Easier said than done. I know first-hand how difficult it is, I know how long it took me to move on from Aeliana- forever. Because I’ll never move on from her. “It has to be something you want too.”

“I’ll learn to want it,” she confidently says. “I don’t want to lose you entirely, I want us to end on good terms, King.”

“Accept our breakup, Audrey,” I repeat, unconvinced by her words. “I’m Aeliana’s until the moon refuses to rise.”

“It never will,” she says, her tone low.

I nod. I want to be clear with her, even if I sound cruel this time. “Exactly. So please-”

“I’ll do it,” she insists, even more confident this time. “Consider it done, I’m sorry I acted this way, it just hurt

me so much.”

“I’m sorry too. I should have been honest with you from the start, but things were complicated.”

“I know,” she sucks in a breath. “And you do look great with her, we looked better, but you two fit better.” She forces a smile, but I can see how badly it hurts on the inside. “I just want her to love you as you deserve.”

“She will,” I nod. I can feel Aeliana gradually warming up to me, she’s starting to trust me more, and last night, I heard her whisper she loves me in her sleep, right after she fell asleep crying on my chest. “We’re working on it, this should serve as a lesson to some, what’s yours will always find a way to come to you. She’s mine, not even years apart erased that love.”

“I just don’t want to be forgotten by you.”

“Never, you’re important to me too, Drey. But she’s my mate, my wife, my Luna.” I say, my lips curving into a smile at the words themselves. I love that woman, even the mention of her makes me smile. “She comes first, before you, my sisters, my brothers, my parents, she comes before me.”

She nods, “But not the pack.”

“Even the pack,” I correct her. There’s nothing I put above her. If ever anyone intends to bring me to my knees, Aeliana would be the key to that. War? I’ll surrender just to keep her safe.

“You really do love her,” she softly says, her tone placid.

“I’ve been saying that to you.” I almost laugh, I’ve mentioned it a few times, but somehow she ignored it.

“I’m sorry, I won’t ruin it for you.” She says. “I will keep my distance, I’ll remind myself we’re through, and I won’t get in between you ever, you should have her, I want you to be happy.”

I nod. I am happy. “I want you happy too, so get out there and meet your person too. Meet your mate, meet your chosen, and live happily together.”

“Good, but I still have to drop you off at your parents’ house tonight.”

“Actually, just drop me off at a hotel,” she sighs. “I don’t want anyone seeing me this way.’

“Are you sure?”

“Look at me,” she motions to herself. “I’m a wreck, Kingston.”

“Okay.”

That seems to relax her a bit, “Can I ask you for one more thing?” She asks, pausing for me to respond. I nod, hoping her request is reasonable. “Don’t tell anyone about what happened tonight, please don’t let them know that I-” she swallows, unable to say the words.

“I’ve got you,” I nod. “Our little secret, I promise.”

“Thank you,” she grins. “And I’ll apologise to Aeliana for my behaviour. I’d like for us to get along.”

“Chances are slim,” I honestly tell her. Aeliana despises her, and I’m not dumb enough to force them to get along. “But she could use a few more friends, so give it a try.”

“So, now that we’re friends again, can we talk about how pretty your mate looks in your shirts?”
