“It's a hospital, Damien.” Gamma Hartley snarls. “They would have been caught.”
“Maybe they mix something in it?”
He pauses, staring at the lady Aeliana pointed at. “I’ll talk to this crazy lady and see what she’s putting in your head. You’re here to heal, not get worse.” She groans, rising from his seat.
“She plans on escaping.”
“Her?” I frown, following Gamma Hartley with my eyes. She scoots to a corner when she pauses in front of her. “With what mind?”
“I’m telling you, she’s sane,” she sighs. “I’ve spoken to her a couple of times, she only pretends to be insane so she doesn’t get sent to jail, but soon, she will leave this place.” She says, staring at the crazy lady.
“Did she tell you how?” I frown, trying to give her the benefit of the doubt because right now, Aeliana sounds like she is exactly where she belongs.
“No,” she sighs, her gaze falling. “But she offered to take me, and I will go.” She swallows, “So don’t be surprised when I go missing, and don’t you dare tell your brother anything because he will bring me back here.”
“Okay,” I nod, starting to feel uncomfortable now. “Umm, let's put a pin on that and talk about something light, hmm?”
“Like what?” She frowns.
“Anything,” I shrug. “You ask me anything, and I’ll fill you in.”
She pauses, staring at nothing in particular for a few moments before they finally speak. “My Noah,” she finally says with a smile. “How is she? She hasn’t come to see me yet.”
I nod, the call I got from her two nights ago replaying in my mind. “She’s fine.”
“You hesitated.” She frowns.
“I don’t know if I should be telling you this.”
“What?” Her face falls. “Did something happen to her? Oh my God, Damien, is she hurt?”
“Not physically.” I smile, trying to lighten the mood, but I don’t know who has it worse between them.
She leans forward, “Rowan broke up with her?” She says, but it sounds more like a statement than a question. Like she knew and expected this, while I knew nothing until I got that call from her.
“No, she broke up with him.”
“Oh, that’s weird.” She frowns, “She kept saying she would do it, but she never got to it, she always fell through.”
I nod, “Some things happened.”
She pauses, an eyebrow raised at me. “You have to give me more than that, D.”
“I was warned not to distress you.” I groan, realising I’ve already overstepped by telling her. She cares for Noah, and she appears worried enough without hearing about what happened.
“Oh, please,” she scoffs. “This fucking place keeps me distressed. Tell me what's going on with my Noah.” She urges, staring expectantly.
“Noah is pregnant.”
