“What?” Maddox pushes her away, coming closer to me. “Kingston, what’s going on?”
My lips part, but I can’t get the words out, I’m stunned by the way Aeliana is acting. Her mannerisms seem to have evolved to match Riley?
“Kingston?” Her eyes find mine again. There’s no shine, no hope, no love, just a dead stare. “No wonder you’re familiar, you’re my driver!” She smiles.
“What’s happening right now?” Maddox whispers.
“She’s messing with me,” I say. That must be it, if not, why would she recognise me by the title she’d designate me with when we played dolls and Riley’s world?
“We should get going, there’s plenty to unpack.” Maddox slaps my shoulder. “I can’t deal with the problem you left if I’m still here.”
“Something is wrong with her, Maddox.” I mind link him, “Look at her.” I say, the last sentence unintentionally coming out loud.
“She looks fine.” He shrugs.
Aeliana giggles, red spraying over her cheeks again. “Thank you, I try to keep my figure. Do you?…” She says, once again reaching out to touch him. Her fingers brush over his bicep before he pulls away.
“Whoa, whoa.” He continues to move, with Aeliana chasing his every step. “Are you trying to get me killed?”
She pauses, “What do you mean, cutie?”
“Cutie?” Maddox snarls, “What is going on right now? Am I still in shock from what I just saw in that office?”
“She says she’s Riley,” I tell him.
“Why are you acting like that?” She growls. “Did you forget my name? Clutz, I should have daddy fire you.”
“Can you give us a moment, Ellie?”
Aeliana growls again, “It’s pronounced Ra-eye.” She says, stomping her foot on the ground. “Not A-Lee.”
I nod, pulling Maddox a few feet away from her, where she can’t hear us.
“Riley?” He frowns. “Are you guys role-playing?” His lip curls in disgust. “I know it’s been a while for you, but couldn’t you wait till she got home to start that shit?”
