Maddox hurries ahead of us, but Aeliana practically chases him down, getting in the back of the car with him, but he quickly makes his way to the front and throws his medical bag upfront so she doesn’t sit there.

When I get in the car, she sits as far from me as she can, her head hanging out the window with a smile. She hums to the radio and dances in her seat, seemingly enjoying Maddox’s ancient music. Songs that I’ve never heard her sing before, songs that our parents would listen to, she sings every word at the top of her lungs. She looks happy and free. It brings me more hurt than joy seeing her like this because I know it’s been weeks since she felt this way.

“Wait, where are we going?” She stops singing, staring out the window.

“Home,” I tell her.

“I don’t live this way,” she shakes her head, her voice panicked. “You’re going the wrong way.”

“Where do you live, Ellie..Riley.” I correct myself.

“You are fired,” she huffs. Still convinced that I’m her driver. “You can’t address me by my name professionally, so I assume you can survive unemployment and the winter,” she says, staring me up and down. “Good luck keeping warm with just fur. You’ll freeze in the outdoors.”

“Aeli—Riley,” Maddox calls from the driver's seat. “Do you know who I am?”

“A cutie pie,” she giggles, porking her head in the front. “And very, very hot by the way.”

“And him?”

“The driver?” She leans back, arms crossed over her chest, while she stares me down again. “He is okay. I guess.”

“Seriously?” Maddox sighs. “Do you really not remember your husband? If this is a joke, call it quits right now, Ellie. You’re scaring me, you’ll get me beat up if you keep flirting with me, Aeliana.”

“Riley,” she growls, her hands flying to her head. “ I’m Riley,” she repeats, this time louder. “My name..”

Her body goes limp in the seat. “Hospital,” I tell him.

“What happened?” Maddox gasps, taking a glance at us before his eyes shift back to the road.

I listen for Aeliana’s pulse, she’s breathing, but out cold. I hold her closer. “She was touching her head, and then she fainted.” I tell him, “She didn’t seem to like you calling her Aeliana.”

“I have a bad feeling about this, King,” he hisses, “What if she really regressed? Something must have happened, and since her nurse didn’t know about this, I assume it’s something that only she knows.”

“You'd better find out,” I bark at him. “You told me it was safe, Maddox. The patients were attacking her, and her doctor was...he was sexually assaulting my mate!”

“I will look into this,” he assures me. “James is a sick bastard, he won’t get away with this. He’ll pay.”
