Every single day, I keep thinking it’ll get easier with Aeliana. Maybe she’ll wake up one day and be herself again, but that seems like I’m reaching. And familiar activities are not helping. I know the doctor said not to force-feed her anything, but it gets harder daily. I for sure thought being at the foundation would help her, considering how much she loved visiting the children, but that was yet another fail.

Tomorrow, I plan on taking her to the waterfall, maybe I’ll find her there. It is the place she’d run to hide at, so it makes perfect sense that I find her there. God, I hope I do.

After our trip to the foundation, I went to run a few errands before I came back home, and when I did, Aeliana was asleep. I didn’t get to see her. I spent the rest of my afternoon and evening in my bedroom, feeling tired. I’m half asleep when I notice a shift in the room and my eyes snap open. “Hey,” Aeliana waves, standing at the edge of my bed.

“Hey.”

“You didn’t come for dinner.”

“I didn’t,” I nod.

Her lips pull into a pout. “Why?”

I shift, propping up against the pillows. “Did you miss me?”

“No,” she promptly counters. “I had a very peaceful dinner, so I was surprised as to why.”

I grab my phone from the other side. It’s five minutes to nine, and she’s always asleep by now. “You should be in bed.”

Her arms cross over her chest. “You should be guarding my bedroom door.”

“I will,” I nod. “I just need to rest for a while.”

“You’re dying, aren’t you?” She frowns, no concern in her gaze, just a familiar curiosity.

I can’t help but laugh. I might be dying on the inside, but physically I’m very fit. “How did you get that from me wanting to rest?”

She shrugs, “People die after that.”

“I’m not dying,” I try to reassure, warmth settling in my chest from how nice she is being. “I’m just a little under the weather. And I have to work out some new...”

She crawls into bed with me, “Move over.” She demands.

With a heavy sigh, I move, but here I thought I’d finally gotten through to her. “Hey man,” Maddox enters the room, his gaze fixed on his phone, so he is very much startled when he looks up and sees Aeliana. “Oh, she’s here too.”

“You’re jealous, aren’t you?”

“Almost,” Maddox nods. “But do you know what would make me even more jealous? If you were touching him. But you’re not even doing anything worthy of my jealousy.” He says, his eyes shifting to me.

Rowan and Danielle appear at the doorway before Maddox can say anything else. “Kingston, are you feeling better?” Danielle asks.

“Yes.”

“I’m going to find my friend now that yours are here,” Aeliana says, trying to leave the bed, but I pull her close. “Hey!”

Rowan and Danielle make their way to my bed, settling at our feet. And Maddox joins them. “What are you guys doing?”

“Let’s watch something,” Danielle suggests.

“Great idea,” Maddox hops out of the bed. “Where is your remote, King?”

My eyes follow him as he searches for the TV remote. “You do realise that you’re in my room.”

“Yeah.” Rowan nods.

“Get off my bed,” I groan. “It’s far more than inappropriate for you to all jump into the bed my wife and I make babies in, especially you,” I tell Maddox. “You’re not getting in any bed with her.”

Aeliana makes a gagging sound on my left. “Ew,” she forces a gag again. I ignore it, she’s not protesting in my arms.

“Found it!” Maddox beams, waving the remote at me. “And if we stop going places that you and Aeliana fucked in, we won't be able to walk the halls or sit anywhere in this house.”
