SERAPHINE
One of my best friends is getting married today, and as per tradition, we’re having the bacherlotte party in the place she was born. For her, it doesn’t happen to be Mooncrest, so we’re travelling to a neighbouring pack, it’s about a two-hour drive there. Audrey is along the way, so we’re picking her up last. The limo is parked in the street when I slip out to fetch Audrey. She tells me she’s on her way when I’m already at the door, so I wait for her instead of going back to the car.
I expect Audrey to walk out the door, but when I hear ot open, it’s not her, it’s Aeliana, all dressed up. She waves at me and walks away without a word.
“Hey, where are you going?” I ask.
She pauses, shaking her head. “I need to get out of here.”
“Why? What happened?”
“I need to go,” she sucks in a breath. “I can’t think straight.”
“What do you mean?” I frown, moving closer to her. “You look scared.”
“I hate him.”
“Kingston?”
“Yes,” she nodded. “I don’t know why, but I don’t like him, I can’t like him, something tells me not to.”
I pause, she seems very upset and at the same time scared. I wonder if he lost his temper with her, but it’s highly unlikely. “Did he do something wrong?”
“No.”
“What’s going on?” I probe, “Did you talk to Audrey?”
“Talk to Audrey about what?”
Oh crap. She’s everywhere. I take a step back from Aeliana when I see Audrey. “Nothing,” I swallow. “She’s a little spooked, and I figured she ran into you before.”
Audrey frowns, “What happened, gorgeous?”
“I was in bed with him.” She says, scratching her arm.
“Maddox?” Audrey gasps.
“Kingston,” she corrects him, giving no further information, but her distress is more than evident.
“Did he try something?”
“Drey,” I gasp. “What kind of question is that?” I ask, my tone scolding. It’s rich coming from her. How could she accuse Kingston of trying something with her? He’d never hurt Aeliana, hell, I doubt he would hurt anyone like that. The fact that she has to ask is disturbing.
“Just making sure she’s okay,” she defends herself. “What happened, Riley? You can tell us.”
“I tried something,” she bites out, her cheeks flushing. “I’m so ashamed.”
“Can you go and be ashamed inside the house?” I frown, “It’s half past eleven.”
“I don’t like your tone, brat.” She snaps, walking away.
“Wait, baby,” Audrey calls her. “Where are you going?”
“I need some air.”
“Riley, go back inside,” I tell her. “Kingston is going to worry about you.”
“He is always worried about something,” she snickers. “So nothing new there.”
If she’s out here this late and alone, that means that Kingston is unaware of what she is doing. He doesn’t leave her alone, she’s always with someone. “Should we go and tell him?” I turn to Audrey, watching her walk away.
“Nah, let’s go.” She flips her hair, “She’s not a child, she can handle herself.” She tells me. “Did you pick everyone else up?”
