Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 423

“Why?” She frowns, arms crossed over her chest in constant protest.

“Because I can't lose you thrice,” I repeat. “I love you, you're my mate.” I remind her, ignoring the way she flinches at my use of the word mate. “How could I not worry if you leave our bed and disappear from the house?”

“I can take care of myself, okay?” She scoffs. “And besides, I called you.”

I pause.

My phone was on silent. I put it on do not disturb after she fell asleep, but still, Aeliana’s phone is in my bedroom. “You called me?”

“Yes,” she nods. “From that weird girl's phone, but it wasn't reachable, and cutie..Maddox came in before I could call you again, so I got distracted.”

“Who did you go with?”

“No one,” she shrugs. “I saw a group of guys headed somewhere, and I asked for a ride. They happened to be going there, so I found people who looked like they were having fun and joined them.”

My eyes widen with horror. She really has the survival instincts of a newborn bird, and in a world of wolves and vultures, she isn't safe. This is getting risky, tiring. I need her appointment moved closer, I can't take another incident like this. Those men who took her could have been our enemies, or some nefarious rouges looking for easy targets, and that's what she is now. An easy target.

“First off,” I take a breath, regulating my tone to sound calmer than I am. “Do not jump in a car with strange males, and secondly, don't leave the house.” I scold, “If you don't like something, you come and tell me, I'll do my best to adjust things for you. Okay?”

She doesn't answer, she simply rolls her eyes, looking everywhere else but at me. I'm not sure if she heard anything I said to her, she seems to be very selective with what she hears.

I throw her over my shoulder and take her back upstairs. This time, I immediately lock the door and pocket the key after I set her down on the floor. I catch her staring at our wedding portrait, her fingers trembling as she reaches for herself. “Aeliana,” She whispers, the word foreign on her tongue.

“Are you okay?”

“What if you don't want me anymore?” She finally moves from the photograph. “Like that girl,” she says, motioning to our wedding picture as she walks away. “I saw her again, she screamed.”

“What?”

“She was screaming,” she swallows, tears gleaming in her eyes. “And you just stared. Why did you do that?”

The day she left.

I swallow, “What else did you see?”

“She screams a lot,” she snarls, potentially irritated. “She screams for help. For honey.”
