I get an early start to my day, leaving Aeliana alone in bed so I can catch up on some work. As long as she is upstairs, she’s safe. Everyone around the house is more active, they know not to let her out alone without Evelyn or Helen, her other nurse, whom she can’t seem to stand. Still, I paid the woman, so she has to show up, and she resides here for any emergencies that might arise with Aeliana.

I leave my office for a few moments of fresh air. The house has been overly quiet all morning, but as I return from my walk outside, all I hear is noise. I expect it to be a child screaming despite having very few young pups around the house, but to my surprise, it’s an adult. A full-grown man that I’ve entrusted with the lives of my pack is screaming right outside my office.

“Maddox,” I sigh, stepping into the office. “Can you return quietly?”

“Kingston,” He gasps, eyes wide and frantic as he stares at me. He looks every bit the party animal, wearing nothing but his boxers with his hair dishevelled. I catch two scents on him, none of them his. He seems to have had a pretty good night, so why does he look horrified? “My life is over.”

“For goddess ' sake, Maddox. Some of us are trying to get some sleep.” Rowan hisses, his head popping up from the sofa I didn't see him lying on. He too is in his pyjamas. Was he here all night?

I stare him up and down, taking in the dark circles around his tired eyes. “Stalking Noah all night?”

“You guys don’t care…” Maddox gasps, diverting our attention back to him.

“What happened?” I ask with a heavy sigh. His lips part, but he doesn't speak, nothing comes out for minutes. “Well, speak.” I frown.

“I—you see, last night..” he starts retching, his face twisting with disgust with every word he says. “I slept with—” he turns, bending over one of the expensive vases that my mother gifted me when I moved into the packhouse.

“Christ,” Rowan hisses. “Did you swallow another man’s cum?”

Maddox chokes, emptying his stomach in the vase and when wiping his mouth with the fresh flowers in the vase next to that one. “I wish,” he says wheezingly. “I wish I had another man’s cum in my mouth, I would still have my dignity then.”

Rowan and I share a look, “What happened?” I ask again.

“I slept with—” he gags. “With…” His face twists again, like he can’t bring himself to say it. “Oh..we,” he says, his voice low, but the dry retching that follows is loud.

“Who?” Rowan asks.

“Old we,” he whispers again, looking absolutely distraught.

I pause. He slept with an old woman?

That’s what this is about? How old was she to have him puking from the memory? “An old woman?” Rowan snorts out a laugh. “How old was she?”

Maddox shakes his head. “Not an old woman, it was Oh ree.”
