“You’re seriously crying?” Rowan laughs, almost unable to get the words out. “Get serious, you’re being dramatic.”

“Dramatic, you don't know what it’s like!”

“I can come back…” Evelyn says.

“Kingston fucked the devil a couple of times, and look at him,” Rowan says, gesturing to me. Now the joke dies, nothing is funny, my smile instantly fades.

“Get out, both of you.” I snap, my past with Audrey is something I don’t want mentioned. No other relationship before Aeliana matters, we aren’t to speak of it. “This shit isn’t funny anymore.”

“I need to take a shower,” Maddox rasps, holding himself up. “But I’ll never feel clean again.”

“Come,” Rowan says. “I’ll hose you down. The pressure from the hose is stronger, you’ll get clean.”

“You’d do that for me?” Maddox chokes out.

Rowan nods, slapping a hand on his back in anything but a comforting manner. “Anything for you, buddy, you know I’ve got your back.”

“Sorry about them,” I tell Evelyn. “Take a seat.”

“The other nurse said that you wanted to see me?” She asks, standing still.

“Yeah,” I nod. “I want to talk to you about Aeliana.”

“Did something happen?”

“She keeps telling me that she sees herself…” I pause, realising my words make no sense at all. “I mean Aeliana.” I correct myself, “She sees her, and she speaks about her in third person.”

“Oh,” her shoulders drop. “That’s natural, she is looking at her memories. It’s actually a good sign. Did you contact the specialist I recommended?”

“I did. He scheduled an appointment, he will be flying here over the weekend.”

“It’ll be good for her,” she says with a warm smile. “Dr Harrison is a renowned specialist, he taught us quite a few times at the institute, but I promise he isn’t in any way affiliated with the sick games the doctors have been playing.”
