KINGSTON
The hospital was making Aeliana restless, so we had to move everything along and bring her back home. She fought me on the way home. She even opted to take her home to Gamma Hartley because she’d feel better there, but Gamma Hartley is away on pack business, so I brought her home.
She fell asleep almost immediately after lying in our bed, and I assured her that I would watch her. She is still under the impression that James could get to her, and that alone made me schedule a visit to the dungeon prison later in the morning.
“Kingston?” Maddox calls from the open door, leaning against the door frame. “I need you to come out for a moment.”
My eyes shift between him and Aeliana. She’s fast asleep now, but I don’t know what will happen when I leave the room. “I can’t leave her alone.”
“Evelyn is still here,” he says. “I invited her to stay the night, but she was worried about Aeliana.”
“She is off the clock,” I tell him. “And she must be sleeping by now. We’ve all had a long night.”
He nods, his eyes shifting somewhere out the door. “Lexie.” He whispers, motioning for her to come closer.
“Sir?” Lexie answers, coming into frame.
“Can you watch Luna Aeliana while we take care of something real quick? You can call for us if she tries to make a scene.”
Her response is instant, “Okay, Sir.”
“Come on,” Maddox nods out the door.
I get up when Lexie makes her way inside, pulling up a chair from the dresser. “Take care of her,” I say, quiet enough not to wake Aeliana. Three hours of sleep is not enough to make up for the overstimulating night she had.
“What happened?” I ask Maddox as I follow him down the hallway.
