“You had a wet dream?”
“Yes, and I was scared someone might’ve been there doing that to me.‘
“No one was there,” he tells me, kissing my forehead.
“I know,” I swallow. “I searched my room before I came here.”
“I’ll check your room every night before you go to bed and after, too.”
“I don’t need you to.”
“I want to,” he yawns. “I’ll enjoy it.”
“Can I just sleep on top of you the rest of the night?”
He shifts instantly, “Anything you want.”
I lay on top of him, and he drapes his arm around me, and I pull the covers over us. He seems to go to sleep right then, but I can’t sleep yet, I’m still not close enough to him. I’m pressed against him, and yet I want to be in his skin.
“Kingston?” I almost whisper, just to check if he’s asleep yet.
“Hmm?”
“I’m ruining your sleep, aren’t I? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to wake you. I just came to sleep.”
“Talk to me,” he says, clearing his throat so I don’t hear how tired he is anymore. “I love listening to you talk.”
“It’s the middle of the night, you-”
“I’m in my favourite place with my favourite girl on top of me, that’s all that matters.” He says, his hold on me tightening.
I frown, “What? This room is your favourite place?” I ask, realising I don’t know any of his favourite places. He doesn’t like much, he is so hard to please, but this room? That’s what impresses him?
“Not the room, you.” He corrects me. “You’re my favourite place.”
“That makes no sense,” I snicker, my cheeks flushing with a familiar heat.
“Wherever you are is my favourite place.”
“I like the waterfall,” I tell him. It’s easily my favourite place in the world. I’ve never seen anything so serenely beautiful before. I like to think of it as one of Mooncrest’s treasures, and around this time? I just know it’s even more beautiful. I kind of wish I were there. “Hey, when do you think I got pregnant?”
“Hmm…” he hums. “See, that’s a pretty tough
one, Siren. But narrowing it down, it could have any time right here, we don’t do much sleeping in beds. Or the waterfall itself, you were in heat then, and you’re more likely to get pregnant when your body actually demands it.”
“Maybe.”
“Do you really want to know?”

“I’m holding you, Aeliana.” He says, gently stroking up and down my spine. “Do you not feel my
“You’re scared.”
“No, I didn’t want to scare you away. You keep telling me to stay away.”
“I won’t run.” I swallow.
touch?”
“Okay,” he whispers, both his hands on me now. One hand gently stroking up and down my back, and the other one on my ass. “Is that okay?”
“It was before, too,” I whisper. “I don’t know why I am acting like this. I sound annoyingly desperate.‘ “You’re not desperate, you’re processing a lot of things.” He sighs, “I love that you came to me when you needed someone. It’s not stupid, annoying or desperate. It’s okay for you to seek reassurance, and I will give it to you as many times as it takes.”
I bury my face deeper in his chest and close my eyes. The unsettling fear that drove me out of my room is long gone, replaced with the recurring thoughts of why someone who loves me this much let go of my hand when I needed him most.
