Alpha’s Rue: His Shunned Luna (Athena Enchanted) novel Chapter 448

AELIANA

Kingston was still with me when I woke up this morning. He had papers scattered on the other side of the bed, which he continued to work on even after I had left the bed. I showered in his room and threw on one of his shirts before we had breakfast in bed. Or more accurately, I had breakfast, and he watched me eat with a wide smile.

We have an appointment at the hospital today, sometime in the afternoon, and it’s all I’ve been able to think about. I can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong with my baby. I’m not carrying a human child, so I know I’m very far behind on pregnancy milestones. Seven to eight weeks shouldn’t look this flat on my belly, it shouldn’t feel so normal.

Evelyn didn’t come in this morning because she’s got a shift at the hospital where her brother is institutionalised, and so I guess it’s just me and my six–foot–seven–inch shadow. My shadow is far behind me, headed downstairs for his breakfast while I head to my room for a quiet session of journaling and then maybe yoga with Danielle later. Hopefully, that can take my mind off things until I get to go and get that ultrasound I so desperately want and at the same time fear.

“Luna Aeliana,” Lexie beams when she meets me in the hallway. “I was just coming to find you. You should check your room,” she says, her smile so wide it’s almost suspicious.

I move slowly, very cautiously. I’m thinking she has my painting laid out or something, but when I walk into the room, I’m met with a familiar figure sitting in the middle of my bed, shiny blonde hair greeting me before I see her face. “Hi,” she turns, waving at me.

I scream.

Noah. It’s really her, she’s here!

I was so bummed when we couldn’t talk yesterday because her brother said she wasn’t home. I thought she simply didn’t want to talk to me, but she’s here, right in front of me. I tackle her on the bed, throwing my hands around her, smiling still. “My honey!” My voice cracks.

“Hi,” she laughs, hugging me back.

“Aeliana?” I hear Kingston say, “What–oh. Noah.”

))

“You see her too, right?” I sniff, still clinging to her. “Oh my God, what… how? My Noah! I missed you so much, baby.”

“I missed you, too.” She says, both of us sobbing now.

“You’re going to suffocate her, Siren.” I hear Kingston say, his tone rather amused.

I pull away from our hug, giving Noah some time to sit up straight before I hug her again. “Noah, nice of you to grace us with your presence.”
