“But Noah is here.” I frown. “Could you reschedule?”

He pauses, his eyes flickering between us like he is about to say no. “I’ll see.”

“What kind of appointment?” Noah asks.

“We have our first appointment with the Gynaecologist.”

Noah gasps, “You’re pregnant?”

“Did she not tell you?”

“I forgot,” I wince, “We got to talking, and it just slipped my mind.”

“Aww, my baby!” Noah squeals, pulling me into a tight hug. “That’s amazing, my Ellie. Let me see your bump,” she says, pulling away with the brightest smile.

I stare down at the oversized shirt I’m wearing. “There’s nothing,” I quietly say, that dreadful feeling from earlier slowly creeping in again.

“It’s there,” Kingston confidently says. “It’s just a little early for everyone to see it, but I’ve seen it.”

“King, don’t.” I shake my head. He isn’t above lying to pacify me, and this isn’t something he should be lying about, for goodness sake.

Noah throws her arms around me again, squeezing me. “I’m so happy for you.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, this is amazing, you’re having a baby.” She says, her voice softer now. “Oh my God, my Ellie. You’re going to be such an amazing mom.”

That’s debatable.

This pup is fucked from conception. Having me for a mom sounds rather scary. I don’t know how to do any of this. I never had a mom, not in any way that counts. I’ll be learning everything anew. My only skill is diaper changes and entertainment, the fun stuff you do when you babysit, but the actual parenting? Goddess, that is scary. “Umm, can we go later? Please?” I ask Kingston. “I just want to spend some time with Noah while she’s still here.”

“Okay, baby. I’ll reschedule.” He nods, “But don’t forget you have a schedule to follow, Maddox will be filling in for Evelyn, so please don’t give him a hard time.”

“Are you going somewhere?”

“Yeah, I have some work to tend to.”

“Where?” I frown. We were supposed to spend the day at home, and now he suddenly has plans outside? I don’t like that, nob with Audrey outside the house.

“Just around the pack, I’m going up north to deal with something, but I will be back before you go to bed.”

I nod, holding Noah still. “I’ll sleep with Noah.”

He smiles, “Wouldn’t expect you not to.”
