Chapter 477

“It was never about you,” Seraphine says, her voice hoarse. “It’s always been about Aeliana, she is fucking obsessed with her. She wants everything that she has. She wanted sisters like her, I became her sister instead, but it wasn’t enough. We played pranks on her.”
“I recall,” I swallow, trying to fill in the gaps. If Audrey lied, then why did Aeliana go with it? I had written to her on the subject a couple of times, and she never once denied it, she threatened to cut me off if I kept asking her, and she did just that. “Move this along. I don’t need a recap of your childhood, I was there. Why does she hate Aeliana so much?” I ask, knowing I won’t hear it from the horse’s mouth because she won’t tell me.
“Hate her?” Seraphine lets out a brief chuckle, her gaze shifting to Audrey again. “I wish she hated her, but I don’t even know what it is that she feels for her. It’s more twisted than hate, and deranged than love. She can’t let Ellie be happy.”
“Why?”
“Because she called her disgusting when she was six.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” I groan.
“She’s done everything to make her life impossible since then, that’s why she tried to kill her in that-”
“Stop fucking talking.” Audrey hisses, launching herself at Seraphine again. She tackles her to the floor, but Seraphine doesn’t stop talking, not even when she claws at her.
“You tried to kill her in that accident,” she says. “I know that accident was caused by you because you were mad she was happy with him.”
With a sigh, I yank her off Seraphine and toss her aside, where Caleb grabs her again. “You said if you couldn’t have her then why would he!”
“Ha-have her?” I stutter, staring between them. It’s like the more Sera speaks, the more unclear the severity and context of Audrey’s fascination with Aeliana gets. First, I thought she hated her, then I thought she just couldn’t stand her, and then she was so eager to patch up and be friends with her. And I believed the last one for years, only to find out she fucking lied about that one too.
“She wants Aeliana,” Seraphine groans, holding her scratched arm. “She wants everything that she has Aeliana can’t be happy with anyone else.” She tells me, her eyes wide with fear. “Not you. Not another man. No one!”
“She’s lying!”
“No,” she shakes her head. “I’m not. I have proof.”
Audrey freezes, “What proof?” She demands.
I don’t bother asking for proof when the last time I was presented with proof by Audrey and all her manipulated accomplices, it turned out to be just fake. I still can’t believe so many people went with it

“The proof that you’ve kept hidden for yourself,” she snaps, her unfocused gaze shifting to me.” Kingston, check her safe. You’ll find it all, she never lets anyone in there. She’s hiding things there.”
