Chapter 482
“No,” he swallows, his hand nearly crumpling the paper. “These are the ones that never got to us.”
I pause. “What do you mean?”
“When you stopped suddenly writing to me.”
“Stopped writing to you?” I frown, a familiar ache building in my chest. I’ve had enough triggering conversation points for tonight. And while it sure as hell was a learning point, it still unnerves me to this day. “Kingston, you weren’t fucking replying. There was nothing sudden about it.”
“But I was.”
“No,” I snap. “I wrote you ten letters, and you never once wrote me back. I asked you for..” I pause when he crouches down below, searching the tilted storage bin on the floor. “What the hell are you doing?”
“Looking?” He says, his voice soft and unbothered.
“We are in the middle of a conversation, or am I wrong?”
His gaze lifts, “Give me a minute.” He says, gathering letters and envelopes into his hand. I don’t ask what he is doing, but he does so expeditiously. “These,” he says, rising, shaking them.
I pause, an eyebrow raised at him. “Why are you showing me your love letters to that freaking psychopath?”
“These are your letters,” he says. “I never got these. Audrey stole them and kept them hidden.”
“That’s impossible,” I frown. “I used to mail them at the post office downtown, not the mailbox out front.” 1
“She did,” he nods, “Look at them. These are mostly yours, and some are mine, the ones that I sent you. Maddox, Rowan, and Jaxton’s letter that he wrote to you after we stopped talking. They’re all here.”
“I don’t…” I reach for one of the letters in his hand and sure enough, the moment I start to read it, I recognise it. It’s one of my letters that I wrote to him before he stopped sending any back to me. “What is happening right now?” I gasp, grabbing another letter from him, and just like the first one, it belongs to
“Audrey stole the contents of your letters and passed them off as hers,” he tells me. “Everything in your letters, I received it, but it didn’t have your name, or your handwriting, it was hers.”
My eyes widen, “She copied them?”
“Yes. And kept them.” He nods, flipping through the papers in his hand. “She started copying yours after she sent me letters about you bullying her, and I thought you were upset with me because I addressed the topic one too many times.”
Me?
