Chapter 77

KINGSTON

When Aeliana didn’t kick me out of her bed last night, I assumed things would likely be different when we woke up but God was I wrong.

I tried to understand her, I tried to see what it was that I did wrong, what it was that displeased her but none of my findings made sense. I tried to find her after I had helped Audrey with her wound but she wasn’t in her room, and she wasn’t anywhere around the house. I happened to accidentally run into Lexie who told me her Luna was sleeping in the guest room.

My attempts to talk ended when I stalked her in the kitchen and she viciously mutilated lettuce on a chopping board while staring directly at me. I took that as a warning and bolted, it was clear that if I didn’t get out of her sights she would have thrown that right at me. I know she wouldn’t miss because I taught her to always hit her target, she wasn’t good with combat but weapons seemed to speak to her better so every training session, I gave her arrows, knives, darts, syringes, anything she could throw to protect herself.

Rowan and I are stuck reviewing security reports from patrol guards around the pack. Everything seems normal but the council sent out a rogue alert. A clan of rougues seem to be invading packs, stealing our resources, killing half-breeds and violating women so I had to tighten security everywhere.

My day starts looking up when Marvin shows up with a wide smile on his face and drops a folder on my desk. I’ve been waiting all week for this, but it’s not what I expected. The folder has a few notes on her favourite activities, places she often visited, and some pictures from her social interaction pages which I have never seen until now. She’s happy in almost every picture, pouting in some but you can still see a light in her eyes, something I haven’t seen once since she returned.

Aeliana seems to have been living her best life in Clinshore, much like Seraphine, Audrey, and my sister Angelina. She’s out on boats, pools, the beach, expensive restaurants, and my favourite among all, lying on a picnic blanket with a canvas beside her. She looks so happy in this, her hair caught the wind in the same way professional images do. But it’s not her beauty that stuns me, it’s the way she smiles-laughs. I begin to wonder if i infact did ruin her life by marrying her.

It doesn’t even matter to me that another man might have been the reason for her smile, I am saddened by having stolen her from that joy. Maybe I should have given up the pack for her, I’d never see her again but for this smile. I put the picture aside and raise another, in the same spot, but with the same woman I’ve seen in most of her pictures. “Who is this, Marvin?” I ask, sliding the picture across the table.

Marvin cracks his head, “The person you had me look into, Noah Fren.”

Noah?

I pause, that’s who she was talking to. “A girl?”

“Yes, a human girl.” He says.

“Noah is a girl?” I pause, trying to remember if Aeliana ever referred to her as a he but no, I heard that name twice. Once when I caught her sleeping in the garden, and once when she took that call. It was I who decided it was a man. “Who names their daughter Noah?”

Rowan laughs from the sofa, throwing his head back. Was I losing sleep over a girl? A human girl. “It pretty common name, Alpha. Did you not know?”

“Of course,” I clear my throat. “Tell me more about this Noah female person.
