“I guess so. How does this even happen? Like what if Max is just

overreacting? I admit that yes, there is a slight pull, but it’s nothing

compared to how I feel about Blake.” I sat across from Rocky and

snuggled into a pillow.

“This mating thing is no joke, Rose. People go crazy because it’s

your one true love. I suggest you and Blake look at rehoming. Once

Taylor and I finish the bonding, we’re going to move into my place

with mum. Maybe you and Blake can find somewhere new too?”

Maybe Rocky was right. Blake and I didn’t even share a room here.

“Maybe you’re right. A new place could be a fresh start for us.” I

looked down at my cup.

Would a new place solve our Max problem? He had just managed to

get into the apartment without any issues, so what would stop him

from entering our home. I just wanted him to understand that I didn’t

want to be with him. I wanted him to stop this childish behavior and

maybe just be my friend.

“Rosy….” I looked up, and Rocky looked worried.

“You sure you’re okay?”

“No, I’m not. But today is usually the day I’m not okay. Just had a

few extra hurdles.”

“Well, you know Taylor, and I would still like to go out for drinks

tonight if you’re up for it.” He smiled at me. The true Rocky “I’m here

for you” smile.

His contiguous smile made me laugh.

“Yes, I would love to. We can’t miss our annual let’s get drunk day.”

“Can I join you?” Blake’s voice came from behind us.

I turned to find him looking at the cake on the counter.

“Wow, he really is trying hard, huh” he threw his jacket and tie on

the barstool and came over to sit next to me.

“How do you always know it’s not me?” He put his arm over my

shoulder and tilted his head to the side.

“I can’t explain it. But I know. My body knows it’s not you. You’re

warm and fuzzy and make my insides all wobbly. As much as I get

comfortable with Max, it’s not the same as how I am with you.

had a smile on his face. His eyes were glassy and filled with love.

“You don’t know how happy you make me.” He brought his hand up

and cupped my face.

“Okay! Time for me to go. I’ll see you guys for drinks tonight.”

Rocky got up and walked towards the door.

“Rockz, hang on. I have to talk to you and Rosy,” Blake called out

and got up.

Rocky came back and sat next to me.

Blake walked over to his jacket and pulled out a piece of paper.

“I have a proposal for you. Both of you. I think it’s time we get you a

bodyguard, Angel. With Max just showing up whenever he wants, I

need to know you’ll be okay when I’m not around.”

“I don’t have any more enemies. Now that Novo is dead, I’m sure I’ll

be fine, so no need for a bodyguard” I looked between Rocky and him.

“Unfortunately for you, I have enemies. More than you’ll be able to

count. When you disappeared last week, I thought someone that

wanted revenge on me had taken you. That’s why I called Max. He’s

good with finding supernatural stuff. Last week was a wake–up call for me. I was just lucky it was just a small gangster that took you. My enemies are way more powerful and dangerous. I need to have

someone that I can trust to keep an eye on you. So, Rocky, how would

you like to do that job for me?” He turned towards Rocky and handed

him the piece of paper.

“Of course I’ll pay you for it. I understand it’s a full–time job, and

you’ll have to quit your current job. So I make sure I’ll look after you.”

Rocky opened the paper, and his jaws dropped. He looked up at

Blake and then down at the paper.

“Dude. Are you fuxking serious?! Fuxk, this is like twice the amount

I would make in a year,” he exclaimed.

“I know. I can’t leave you at a disadvantage. You’ll be looking after

my most prized possession. It would help if you had an incentive to

make sure Rosy’s okay at all times. Besides, you are my brother–in-

law. I gotta keep you on my side” Blake laughed, and Rocky joined

him.

“Hey, hey! Do I get a say in this?!” Rocky and Blake sobered

looked at me.

“No,” they both said in unison.

“We both know what a baby you can sometimes be, so I accept this

job. No more fixing people’s dirty toilets!” Rocky started laughing

again.

“Well, Fuxk you both. I’m going” I got up and started walking

towards my room.

A pair of arms wrapped around my waist and held me back.

“Hey, let me go❞ I struggled, trying to get free.

“Rocky, could you please give the birthday girl and me some

privacy” Blake laughed.

“Yes, Boss.” Rocky saluted and started laughing. He gave me a wink

and walked out of the apartment, closing the door behind him.

I stopped struggling and sighed in defeat, knowing I couldn’t get

away.

“Don’t sigh, Angel. I have a little present for you, and I don’t think

Rocky would have wanted to see that” he chuckled, turning me

around to look at him.

I crossed my arms and narrowed my eyes at him.
