Chapter 117 Care About Him
Chapter 117 Care About Him
Natasha felt a faint bitterness in her heart.
She forced herself to brush it off.
But thinking about how Jared had asked her to be with him after her divorce just yesterday, and now he was already welcoming another woman into his arms.
She still couldn’t shake off the discomfort inside.
Natasha headed straight for the restroom.
Standing in front of the sink, she stared at her conflicted reflection in the mirror and suddenly found it a little funny.
She thought, ‘Why am I even bothered by this?
‘Lizzie showed up at the CEO’s office today. Wasn’t that my idea in the first place?
‘Even if it weren’t Lizzie, there’d be another woman. There’s always someone else waiting to throw themselves at him.
‘The kind of woman who can be with Jared openly is never going to be me.
‘Haven’t I already figured that out? That’s why I said no to him and refused to actually be with him.
‘I only agreed to sleep with him once, and after that, we call it even.’
Natasha turned on the faucet, cupped her hands under the cold water, and splashed it onto her face, hoping it would snap
her out of it.
She told herself, ‘Yeah, I need to get my head straight.
‘At the very least, I have to be clear about where I stand with Jared.
‘We only slept together once, and that is it.
‘It’s impossible for anything more to happen between us.
Once she’d sorted it all out in her head, Natasha took a deep breath, washed her hands, and was about to leave.
But just as she turned around, she bumped right into someone.
The woman’s purse spilled open, and everything inside scattered across the floor.
“I’m so sorry…” Natasha blurted out.
She quickly apologized and crouched down to help pick up the stuff.
Natasha’s gaze froze when she spotted a condom lying on the floor, her mind blanking for a second.
The woman she’d bumped into was clearly flustered, her cheeks turning red.
She grabbed the condom, shoved it back into her purse, and rushed out of the restroom without another word.
Natasha stood frozen, her mind spinning in confusion.
‘A condom?’ she thought, her heart dropping for a second.
She remembered he hadn’t used one when she was with Jared the last time.
The worst part was that she’d forgotten to take the morning-after pill.
‘Damn it! Could I get pregnant like this?’ she thought.
Natasha couldn’t think about anything else right now.
Realizing that, she rushed straight for the restroom door.
But in her hurry, and with a puddle right at the entrance, her heel caught on the wet floor, and she lost her balance, falling backward.
Natasha thought she was definitely going down.
But out of nowhere, a strong arm caught her just in time, wrapping around her slender waist.
Jared’s powerful arm drew her in. Before she realized it, she was pulled right into his embrace.
Her head leaned against his warm chest, and she found herself nestled in his arms.
The familiar scent of him drifted to her nose, making her heart skip a beat.
Jared’s gentle voice sounded above her head. “Why are you so careless?”
The moment she realized it was Jared, Natasha pushed him away without a second thought.

She stepped back, keeping a safe distance between them.
She thought, ‘He’d just been holding another woman in his arms.
‘I’m not about to chase after him or make myself look desperate.’
“Thanks for your concern, Mr. Rundell,” Natasha said coolly.
She stepped around him, keeping her distance, and was about to leave.
But Jared grabbed her arm and pulled her back. “Where are you going?”
Natasha kept her expression calm. “I have something to deal with today, so I need to leave early.”
Jared arched his eyebrow.
His eyes held something deep and unfathomable, a look she couldn’t quite read.
“Are you mad?” he asked.
He assumed she wanted to leave early because she’d caught what happened in his office and was upset about it.
Natasha instinctively struggled in his arms.
“Why would I be mad?” she replied calmly.
Natasha thought, ‘Do I even have the right to be mad?
‘We are nothing more than boss and employee.
‘Sleeping with him that one time is nothing but a one-night stand.
‘It doesn’t mean anything more than that.
‘He doesn’t owe me any explanations..
‘And I have no reason to ask.’
Jared’s deep eyes fixed on her. “What you saw just now was a fluke…”
He hadn’t planned on holding Lizzie at all.
Lizzie suddenly showed up today, practically begging him to have dinner with her.
He’d already said no.
But Lizzie stumbled and, out of nowhere, ended up crashing right into his arms.
He’d only steadied her on instinct.
Right then, Natasha knocked and came in.
She just happened to catch that scene.
Natasha paused, stunned for a moment.
Her brows furrowed.
‘An accident?’ Natasha questioned inwardly.
She thought, ‘Was it really just an accident? Seriously, how many “accidents” can there be in this world?”
“You don’t owe me an explanation,” Natasha said, her voice icy.
Without another word, she turned and walked away.
But Jared grabbed her wrist and pulled her right back.
“Mr. Rundell, is there anything else you need?” Natasha asked.
Impatience was written all over her pretty face.
She looked as if she couldn’t care less about whatever was happening between him and Lizzie.
Jared’s gaze was sharp as a blade, his eyes never leaving her face.
His sexy lips were pressed into a tight line, but he didn’t say a single word.
Everything he wanted to say was written in his eyes.
There was helplessness there, a silent plea for her to stay, and a struggle he couldn’t hide.
Natasha didn’t like how unreadable his emotions were.
It just made things even more draining.
“Mr. Rundell, you’d better let go of me. If Miss Hopkins catches us pulling at each other like this, that won’t look good for

you,” Natasha said, her tone cold and distant.
Her gaze was frosty, not a trace of warmth in her eyes.
Jared’s handsome face clouded over as he took in her casual, almost dismissive look.
He didn’t let go. Instead, he pinned her firmly against the wall behind her.
His tall frame suddenly moved in, trapping her tightly in place.
“Why would it be hard to explain?” Jared demanded.
His deep gaze bore into her, questioning her directly.
Natasha arched an eyebrow.
‘Isn’t it obvious?’ she thought.
“Miss Hopkins is the top heiress, proud like a princess. If she ever found out you and I had something going on, what do you think she’d do? She’d probably never even look at you again,” Natasha warned, her tone icy.
