Chapter 166 Back Then It Was Her
Chapter 166 Back Then It Was Her
The next day happened to be the weekend, and Natasha didn’t have to face Jared at work. Right now, he was the person she dreaded seeing most; she was scared he’d mess with her again.
Before they made things official as friends with benefits, Jared still held back a little. But ever since Natasha agreed, he had every reason to pull her into his bed whenever he felt like it.
Natasha just wanted to take a break and stop feeling so sore all the time. Taking advantage of the weekend, she went back to the house she used to share with Percy.
Sure enough, Percy had already cleared out his room and moved all his stuff. She started packing up, too, and she planned/ to call a real estate agent later to help her sell the house.
There wasn’t much left to move; Natasha had already taken her own stuff out before. A lot of the furniture, like the wardrobes, was built into the house. The only things she could take were the sofa, tables, and chairs.
But her current place already had all that furniture. There was no space for extra pieces, so she figured it was better to just sell the house with the furniture included.
The only things she could really take were stuff like the microwave, oven, and some bed linens. Natasha spent a few hours packing, loading everything into a couple of big boxes, ready to haul them out.
Her gaze landed on the bedroom curtains. She’d actually designed those curtains herself and had them custom-made to her own taste.
Back then, Natasha had been full of hope for her marriage. She thought that marrying Percy would mean a lifetime of happiness. It turned out that it was all just her own wishful thinking.
No matter how much love she poured into this home, it was never enough to win back a man whose heart was never hers to begin with.
Truth was, this wasn’t really about moving out or selling the place. She was severing her connection to the past. The process was painful, but she believed the future would be full of hope.
A woman only found endless possibilities when she dared to break through her own limits. At last, she could put it all behind her.
Natasha took a deep breath, reaching for her phone to call the real estate agent. The door suddenly unlocked and swung open, and Percy stepped inside.
Natasha couldn’t help but frown when she saw him. “What are you doing here?” Natasha asked, her tone wary.
They were already divorced, and he’d taken all his stuff with him. Honestly, he had no reason to show up here again.
‘Wait, did I forget to ask him for the keys?’ Natasha thought.
Just as Natasha was about to say something, Percy cut in, “You asked me to come over today.”
He’d been calling her nonstop yesterday, but she never answered. He kept texting her, and only got a reply late at night. Percy was convinced Natasha was deliberately avoiding him.
So he even bribed the security guard at the entrance. Whenever Natasha came back, the guard would tip him off. He’d just gotten a tip-off from the security guard and hurried over to corner her.
Natasha froze for a second. She remembered the messages she’d sent him last night. She really had asked him to come see her today.
But she’d meant to meet him at a café, not here at the house. Natasha was surprised to see Percy at the house; she hadn’t expected him to show up here, of all places.
“Did you leave something behind? Didn’t you take everything with you?” Natasha couldn’t help asking.
Percy met her gaze, his expression serious. “I’m here for that handkerchief.”
Natasha looked at him intently. “Is that handkerchief really that big a deal to you?”
She couldn’t help but wonder why Percy seemed so concerned about it. ‘Is it just because the handkerchief belonged to Joelle, or is there something more to it?’ Natasha thought.
“That handkerchief belongs to Joelle. She gave me a token of our love,” Percy said, his voice calm but firm.
Percy never meant to spill so much to her. Now that they were divorced, it didn’t really matter anymore.
Natasha was taken aback. “A love token?”
‘How did my handkerchief become the keepsake between Joelle and Percy?’ Natasha thought, her mind reeling.

Percy glanced at her, his eyes flickering with something unreadable. He spoke quietly, “Back when I first transferred to that elite school, I got bullied pretty badly. One time, those rich kids ganged up on me and left me a mess.
“I was sprawled on the floor, barely conscious, when Joelle showed up and saved me… She gently wiped the blood and dirt from my face with that handkerchief.”
Natasha’s mind buzzed, completely thrown off. She was floored, unable to move. ‘Percy actually remembers that… Natasha thought, her heart skipping a beat. ‘But he got it all mixed up. He thinks Joelle was the one who saved him, but it was me.
“How can you be so sure Joelle was the one who saved you?” Natasha asked, her eyes narrowing with suspicion.
‘Was Percy so out of it back then that he mixed up who actually saved him?’ Natasha wondered.
Percy said with absolute certainty, “That handkerchief is Joelle’s, so obviously she was the one who saved me.”
Percy’s answer made Natasha’s suspicion feel spot-on. “So you didn’t really see who saved you back then, did you?” Natasha pressed, her voice steady but probing.
Percy hesitated for a moment. Then he replied, “Who else could it be except Joelle?”
Back then, his father had just taken him back into the Grosso family and sent him to that elite school. Because of his status as the Grosso family’s illegitimate, the other students always looked down on him.
No one wanted to be his friend, and no one even bothered to talk to him. Everyone either bullied him or acted like he didn’t
exist.
‘Who else would even care enough to help me besides Joelle?’ Percy thought, convinced there was no one else.
Natasha gave a faint, sarcastic laugh. She never expected Percy to be so arbitrary about it. He pinned everything on Joelle, just because of a handkerchief.
What he didn’t know was that back when he was brought into the Grosso family and transferred to that elite school, Joelle was just like the rest of the students; she looked down on him, too.
