Chapter 203 Standing Up for Me!

Chapter 203 Standing Up for Me!

“Mm…” Natasha was caught in his passionate kiss once again, unable to resist. The atmosphere in the restaurant grew suggestive, and after what felt like ages, Jared finally released her.

He grabbed her slender hand and guided it to his firm chest. “How about you pick a guy who’s good-looking, has a killer body, and is as reliable as me?” Jared teased.

Natasha’s eyelid twitched. ‘What’s he getting at?’ she wondered. ‘Is he actually hinting that I should pick him? she thought, her heart skipping a beat.

Natasha blushed furiously. She instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but Jared held her hand firmly in place. Natasha, flustered, blurted out, “Jared, don’t do this. We agreed we’d be merely friends with benefits.”

Jared’s good-looking face turned sombre. He narrowed his eyes at her. “So you really just want to be friends with benefits with me?”

Natasha nodded without hesitation. “Yeah,” she replied. She just wanted to keep things casual between them as friends with benefits.

Jared felt a sense of defeat that he had never experienced before, and a flicker of hurt flashed in his eyes. He no longer had the appetite to continue the meal. His tall figure left the dining room, leaving Natasha with a lonely, receding silhouette.

After finishing her meal alone, Jared had his driver send her home. He made sure the driver handed her the medication she needed for her nervous disorder. Natasha didn’t see him again after she got to the office.

After work, just as Natasha stepped out of the elevator, she was surprised to see Percy the moment she looked up. ‘He actually came to my office to wait for me?’ Natasha thought, totally caught off guard.

He was tall and strikingly handsome, with sharply defined features. Ever since he had replaced his elder brother as the successor to the Grosso Group, he carried an air of lofty nobility wherever he went.

The female colleagues in her company couldn’t help but steal glances at him, all looking at Natasha with undisguised envy. Natasha groaned inwardly; she and Percy had actually already broken up.

“Why are you here?” She looked at him in surprise.

Percy explained, “I’m here to take you to the Grosso mansion. Brent’s funeral is first thing tomorrow morning.”

Natasha frowned. She had indeed agreed to attend Brent’s funeral with him, playing the role of his wife. But she had never agreed to stay overnight at the Grosso mansion.

“You head back first; I’ll be there early tomorrow,” Natasha said.

She could easily get to the Grosso mansion by herself. There was really no reason for her to go back with him, let alone spend the night at the Grosso mansion. Even if it was just an act, Natasha wanted no part of it.

Percy’s gaze turned icy. “If I go back alone, people will think something’s off between us.

Natasha couldn’t help but scoff, “Seriously? You really still care?”

Percy said firmly, “I just became the Grosso family heir. Everyone’s got their eyes on me now. I can’t let anything go wrong at a time like this.”

Natasha hesitated a while, then said, “Alright, I’ll go back with you tonight, but we must sleep in different rooms.”

There was no way she would share a room with him for the sake of keeping up appearances. That was where she drew the line. Percy’s gaze darkened, a hint of gloom flickering in his eyes, but in the end, he agreed.

When they arrived at the Grosso mansion, Natasha could clearly sense the air of sorrow hanging over the place. Brent had just passed away, and the entire Grosso family was still engulfed in grief.

Natasha and Percy arrived just in time for dinner. Not long after they walked in, the butler announced that dinner was ready. They headed to the dining room, but saw only Lily, and Clayton and Gloria were nowhere to be seen.

Natasha guessed it was because Brent had just passed, and Clayton and Gloria were still overwhelmed with grief over their son’s passing. Moreover, Brent’s funeral was tomorrow. There was still a ton of stuff to handle.

‘It makes sense if they don’t want to see her, si Successfully unlocked! Natasha thought. Even when Lily saw Natasha,

her face was icy cold.

During the dinner, Lily pretty much treated Natasha as if she were invisible. She just kept loading up Percy’s plate, fussing

over him nonstop, her words dripping with motherly concern. Natasha wasn’t surprised, she had gotten used to it

Lily never paid any attention to Natasha; Percy was always the only one she cared about. Natasha just wanted to keep her head down, eat, and get out as soon as possible.

But halfway through Lily’s fussing over Percy, she suddenly started grilling Natasha. “You’ve been busy, huh? Tomorrow is Brent’s funeral, and the whole family’s been helping out. Why are you the only one who’s missing?” Lily snapped, clearly displeased.

Natasha knew Lily was using this as an excuse to nitpick and stir up drama. Now that her son was the Grosso family heir, so she could ignore Natasha’s existence.

She probably even thought Natasha wasn’t good enough for her son now. Little did she know that Natasha and Percy had broken up long ago, and Natasha was no longer obligated to get involved in the Grosso family’s drama.

Just as Natasha was about to speak up, to her surprise, Percy jumped in and answered for her. “Mom, I told Nat she didn’t have to help out. If you’re upset, blame on me,” Percy said.

Natasha and Lily were stunned. ‘Did Percy just stick up for Natasha?’ Lily thought, barely able to process it. ‘This is literally/ the first time. He’d never done anything like this before.’

Back when Natasha visited Lily at the Grosso mansion with Percy, he would always stay out of it, as if it was none of his business, whenever Lily acted superior and made Natasha feel unwelcome.

He never once took Natasha’s side or said a single word in her defense. ‘Did hell just freeze over or something?’ Lily thought, still reeling from shock. ‘He actually defended her and stood up against me?’

Lily was so shocked she almost couldn’t react. She couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that her son was sticking up for a woman he supposedly didn’t care about at all.
