Chapter 33 Pissed Him Off
Chapter 33 Pissed Him Off
“Natasha, are you in Jared’s bed right now?” The moment Natasha answered, Collin’s voice came through the phone
A jolt went through her. A look of profound awkwardness crossed her face. Jared was standing right next to her hospital bed.
If she had known Collin was going to say something like that, she would’ve just hung up. “No, what are you talking about? Natasha shot back without missing a beat.
But Collin wasn’t buying it. “Don’t lie to me. I saw it myself. Jared carried you off the yacht. Weren’t you two going to a hotel to get a room?”
Collin was getting more and more ridiculous. Natasha gave Jared an awkward look. To her surprise, his piercing gaze was already locked onto her.
Their eyes met, and Natasha wished the earth would open up and swallow her whole. She knew for sure Jared had heard every word Collin said.
‘Is Jared going to think I was trying to seduce him tonight?’ she thought. Natasha couldn’t bring herself to look at him and turned away, feeling flustered.
Natasha hurriedly said into the phone, “You’re seeing things, seriously. I need to get some rest.” She was about to hang up.
But Collin suddenly yelled, “Natasha, you finally landed Jared. Don’t you dare forget about me.
“I was the one who brought you to that yacht party tonight. And don’t forget what I asked you. Bring it up to Jared for me, okay?”
Natasha frantically hung up the phone. She turned and found herself staring right into Jared’s sharp, hazel eyes. Her heart dropped.
‘I’m screwed,’ she thought. ‘He must’ve heard everything. Damn it, Collin. He’s always causing me trouble.’
Jared gave her a long, meaningful look. “Fishing for me, huh?”
Natasha would never admit to that. “N-No. Mr. Rundell, don’t get the wrong idea,” she blurted out, shaking her head frantically.
Jared suddenly leaned in closer. He was dressed all in black; his intense presence was almost suffocating.
He reached out and grabbed the back of her neck, pulling her right up to him. “So now that you’ve landed me, are you satisfied?”
His deep eyes were staring right at her, as if he could see straight into her soul. Natasha’s heart was pounding like crazy. She stared at him in disbelief. ‘When did I ever “land” him?’ she thought. ‘Does he really have to be this sarcastic?’ “Mr. Rundell, you’ve really got it wrong. I wasn’t trying to land you.” Her lashes fluttered. She bit her lip, determined to stick to her story no matter what.
“Collin just said it himself on the phone. You think he was making it up?” Jared pressed, his brows knitting tighter.
Jared’s aura felt even more overwhelming. For some reason, hearing her deny it only made Jared even angrier.
“Really, I would never have had the guts to make a play for you. I was trying to brush him off,” Natasha said.
Her heart raced with panic as she tried to explain, but the more she did, the darker Jared’s expression became.
Jared moved in, towering over her, closing the distance in an instant. The raw, masculine aura that was uniquely his enveloped her completely.
“So I was your target tonight, huh?” A dark shadow fell over Jared’s sharp features, and he looked utterly dangerous. He clearly didn’t believe a word she said.
His gaze became even more inscrutable. “Tell me. After all the scheming to get on that yacht, what do you want from me?”
Natasha’s heart skipped a beat. She felt like there was no way out. “N-nothing,” she stammered, still shaking her head.
There was no way she was going to admit that Collin had pushed her onto that yacht tonight all because of him.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to help Collin. But she knew perfectly well that asking Jared for a favor meant paying a price she couldn’t afford.
Besides, Natasha thought her relationship with Collin wasn’t nearly good enough for her to make that kind of sacrifice.
“Natasha, here’s your chance. Just tell me what you want, and maybe I’ll help you out.” Jared narrowed his eyes, his tone smooth and persuasive.

Chapter 33 Pered Him Off
Natasha was taken aback. She looked up at him in surprise. ‘Wait, is he actually going to help me? she thought
But she didn’t want to owe Jared a massive favor because of Collin. Collin might be her brother, but he had been messing with her ever since they were kids.
Honestly, she was already doing him a favor just by not making things worse for him. Natasha definitely wasn’t some kind of saint.
“Really, it’s nothing. It’s getting late, Mr. Rundell. You should head back.” She moistened her lips and finally asked him to leave.
Jared stared at her deeply. His expression grew even colder. A dark, almost hostile energy seemed to radiate from him. A wave of suffocating tension washed over Natasha. But she couldn’t figure out why Jared was so angry. She thought, Does he expect me to come to him for help?’
When Jared left in the middle of the night, he slammed the hospital room door. Natasha really had no idea what she had done to upset him.
She thought, ‘Isn’t this exactly what a competent subordinate is supposed to do? Keep his help unasked for and stay out of his way.’
She lay awake brooding all night and only managed to drift off when dawn was breaking.
By the time she finally woke up, it was already noon. The doctor came in to check on her, taking a look at her injured foot.
Her foot healed quickly, and the wound was already closing. The doctor gave her permission to be discharged that day.
But the doctor stressed repeatedly that her foot could not bear any weight just yet. She needed to go home and take it easy for a few days.
Natasha thanked the doctor, packed up her things, and got ready to leave. Since she was alone and her foot was still injured, she borrowed a wheelchair from the nurse.
