Chapter 37 Missing Her
Chapter 37 Missing Her
She steadied her breath and stepped out politely. She thought, ‘Maybe this is the proper space to keep between Jared and me. We’re just back on the right track now.’
That night, Natasha met Dorothy for dinner. When Dorothy heard Natasha had missed work due to an injury, she immediately showed concern.
Dorothy said, “No wonder I haven’t seen you at the office these past few days. Why didn’t you tell me your foot was hurt?”
“It wasn’t that serious. It’s fine now.” Natasha shook her head, looking distracted. “Do you know any lawyers who are good at handling divorce cases?”
Dorothy was taken aback. “Wait, you’re thinking about getting a divorce?”
Natasha nodded. She used to think that once Joelle got married, Percy would stop chasing after her. But now, Natasha realized she had just been fooling herself.
Percy’s heart belonged only to Joelle; there was no room in it for anyone else. After Joelle got married and was cold- shouldered by Nicolas, Percy only thought that he had a chance.
Lately, Percy was practically glued to Joelle, way more than before. Natasha hadn’t seen Percy for a long time.
Natasha thought, ‘If this is the case, what point is there in keeping this marriage going? Now might be the perfect time for me to get a divorce from Percy.’
“I’m all for it. Percy’s such a jerk. You should’ve dumped him a long time ago,” Dorothy said without hesitation.
Natasha looked troubled. “But getting a divorce won’t be easy, I’m afraid. I have to find a really good lawyer.”
Her marriage to Percy was arranged by both families. It was more like a family alliance than a real relationship.
If Natasha wanted a divorce on her own, she’d have to deal with Percy and the Grosso family first. And the Whittiers would be the first to object.
She thought it wouldn’t be hard to get Percy’s agreement. If Percy thought he had a chance with Joelle, he’d be more than happy to divorce her.
Compared to marrying Natasha, the overlooked youngest daughter of the Whittier family, the Grosso family would much rather see Percy end up with the true Whittier heiress, Joelle.
The real problem was the Whittier family. Bernard, Roxanne, and Sandra all doted on Joelle and were determined to marry her off to someone from a top-tier family.
No way would they let Joelle marry Percy, an illegitimate son of the Grosso family.
Yet the Whittiers simply couldn’t pass up the lucrative benefits that came with the marriage alliance to the Grosso family.
So they had no choice but to send Natasha, their neglected daughter, to marry him instead. How could the Whittiers possibly be willing to replace her with Joelle?
“My cousin is dating a lawyer. Want me to ask her?” Dorothy suggested.
“Sure, but keep this under wraps for now,” Natasha reminded. She didn’t want to alert the Whittiers and give them a chance
to interfere.
Dorothy gave her a knowing look. “Don’t worry, I get it.”
Meanwhile, upstairs in the restaurant, three men of distinguished status sat in a private room.
“Jared, Nicolas, what’s with you two? You act like you’re not even happy I’m back,” Algernon said.
Algernon had just returned from abroad, and Jared and Nicolas had planned to throw him a welcome-back dinner. But since he had walked into the private room, these two had barely spoken. Jared and Nicolas had just been drinking in silence.
“It’s got nothing to do with you. I’m just annoyed,” Nicolas grumbled, slouching in his seat with his legs crossed.
Algernon knew Nicolas had recently gotten married, but not to the woman he loved. Algernon couldn’t blame him for being so down. He looked at Jared, confused. “Jared, what about you?”
Jared pressed his lips together, not saying a word. Nicolas eyed him and said, “What else? His family is probably pushing him into blind dates again.”
Jared’s fingers paused on his glass for a second. He didn’t deny it. These days, his grandmother and mother had been

setting him up on blind dates, nagging him nonstop to get married and have kids.
Tired of their nagging, he had met a few women. They were all interested in him, but honestly, none of them caught his eye
On top of that, he couldn’t get Natasha out of his head. ‘Am I crazy?’ he thought. ‘Obsessing over a married woman?’
He had been making an effort to keep his distance from Natasha lately. But she still kept slipping into his dreams, messing with his head and leaving him restless.
Even in the riddle of meetings, on his commute, or during business dinners, she’d pop into his mind before he even realized it.
She was like a dangerous drug. He knew he shouldn’t get close, but he couldn’t stop wanting her. Even now drinking with his childhood friends, he still missed her badly.
Nicolas, standing by the window, suddenly called out, “Hey, Jared, isn’t that your assistant, Natasha?”
Jared’s heart skipped a beat when he heard her name. He shot up from his seat and hurried over to the window, following Nicolas’s gaze down to the floor below.
Sure enough, he saw Natasha sitting in a corner, eating with a friend. She looked worried and sighed now and then. Something seemed to be bothering her.
“Which one? The one in the white outfit? She’s stunning,” Algernon said, joining them at the window and peering down with
interest.
Algernon’s eyes landed on Natasha instantly. She was the sort of woman with a breathtaking combination of stunning features and a flawless figure.
“But why does she look familiar?” Algernon narrowed his eyes, then it hit him. “Isn’t she the Whittier family’s overlooked youngest daughter?” He turned to Nicolas. “Hey, she’s your wife’s sister.”
Nicolas’s eyes darkened. “You know her?” Jared cast a deep glance at Algernon’s way, too.
Algernon said, “Not really. I just happened to catch Joelle scolding her at a Whittier family party once.
“She’s Bernard’s daughter from his mistress, so she barely has any status in the Whittier family. Nobody pays her any
attention.”
