Chapter 39 Let’s Get Divorced

Chapter 39 Let’s Get Divorced

Percy’s brows drew together instantly. “Why are you so petty? Joelle had some stomach problems and ended up in the hospital.

“I just spent a few more days looking after her. Are you really going to get worked up over that?”

Natasha let out a sarcastic laugh. “A few days? You’ve practically moved into her hospital room.”

Ever since Joelle got admitted, Percy had been running to the hospital every single day. ‘Does he even remember he has a wife?’ Natasha thought.

Percy’s face turned even colder. “What are you saying? Joelle is your sister. You can insult me all you want but don’t you dare disrespect her.”

Natasha locked eyes with him. “You keep saying she’s my sister, but honestly, have you ever really treated her like that as my husband?

“Even now, you keep mentioning Joelle, like you want everyone to know just how much she matters to you.”

Percy’s expression froze for a moment. He instinctively defended himself, “I’ve known her forever. We’re friends. Don’t overthink it or jump to conclusions.”

Natasha shot him a cold glare. “Come on, you know exactly what it is.” Percy’s eyes narrowed sharply. His face darkened with anger.

Percy felt a wave of discomfort, like his secret had been laid bare for everyone to see. All this time, he had been careful to hide his feelings for Joelle.

He knew his status as an illegitimate child meant he was never good enough for her. He could only care for her quietly, from a distance.

Percy had even married Natasha just so he could stay close to Joelle. Even if it meant being her brother-in-law.

He thought he had kept his feelings hidden perfectly, but Natasha saw right through him anyway.

“Say one more word and I’ll divorce you right now,” Percy snapped, his voice sharp with warning.

What he didn’t realize was that Natasha had been waiting for him to say those words. “Fine, let’s get divorced.”

‘Does he really think I’m still hung up on him? That I’m afraid to leave?’ Natasha thought. ‘Nope, that’s exactly what I want.

‘A man who’s already checked out of this relationship. Why would I hold onto him any longer if not to end it?’

Percy froze. This time, it was his turn to be shocked. He had never expected Natasha to agree without hesitation.

He had thought she had married him because she liked him. At least in the early days of their marriage, her eyes had held hope when she looked at him.

But now? Her gaze was nothing but coldness. There wasn’t a hint of love in her eyes for him anymore.

It felt like something had pricked his heart. “Listen, you better think this through. Don’t make a rash decision,” Percy said coldly.

Natasha said flatly, “I’ve thought it through. I’m willing to step aside for you and Joelle.”

“You!” Percy stared at her in disbelief. His eyes were turbulent, emotions raging beneath the surface.

Natasha ignored him and headed straight for her room. She slammed the door behind her with a bang.

Percy’s brows drew together. This was the first time Natasha had argued with him and lost her temper since they got married.

He forced down the unfamiliar irritation churning inside him and returned to his own room. Opening a drawer, he took out a carefully preserved handkerchief.

Percy held it against his chest, letting himself get swept away by memories. He had grown up without a father, and kids his age always picked on him.

Later, when the Grosso family’s eldest son got seriously ill, he and his mother were brought to the Grosso mansion. Even so, he was scorned and isolated by everyone for being the illegitimate child.

After Percy was sent to an exclusive school, he got bullied all the time. Once, he had mustered the courage to fight back. It only made things worse.

He had ended up on the ground, barely conscious. A little girl in a yellow dress held out a handkerchief to him. “Hey, your face is dirty. Let me wipe it for you, okay?”

She was the only classmate at the school who never looked down on him. In that moment, Percy felt a rush of warmth All his heart.

Unfortunately, he was on the verge of losing consciousness, so all he remembered was a blurry silhouette of that girl.

By the time he came to, he was already in the school infirmary, having been carried there by the girl.

Later, when he thought back, he had only remembered the rainbow bear pattern embroidered on the handkerchief she had used.

Years later, he discovered that Joelle had a handkerchief with the exact same rainbow bear pattern. After some digging, he realized she had attended that school too.

That was when Percy became certain Joelle was the little girl in the yellow dress who had helped him that day.

“Joelle, I love you. Only you.” He pressed the handkerchief to his chest and closed his eyes, his face twisted in agony. Why couldn’t I have married you?”

The weekend arrived quickly. With Dorothy egging her ‘on, Natasha went with her to Nicolas’s horse ranch.

As soon as they got out of the car, Dorothy let out an excited squeal. “Oh my god, this place is gorgeous.”

She stared at the horse ranch, her eyes wide with awe. “And the horses are so pretty.”

Natasha glanced around, taking in the view. There was a huge stretch of vibrant green grass, with rows of wooden fences lining the fields.

Off in the distance, she could see a bunch of horses munching away inside the paddocks. With blue skies and fluffy clouds overhead, the whole place looked amazing.

“Let’s go,” Natasha said, then started walking toward the entrance of the ranch.
