Chapter 40 He Won’t Let Go

Chapter 40 He Won’t Let Go

Jared had no idea that his gaze was practically burning with possessive heat. Natasha felt uneasy all over and instinctively shifted away from him.

But Dorothy, standing beside her, had also spotted Jared. She exclaimed, “Oh my, is that Mr. Rundell? Who knew we’d run into him at the ranch on a weekend?”

Before Natasha could react, Dorothy grabbed her arm and dragged her towards where Jared was sitting.

Jared spotted Natasha and Dorothy first, but he wasn’t as quick to react as Nicolas. As the host, Nicolas immediately stood up and walked over to greet them.

Jared had been about to get up too, but seeing how fast Nicolas moved, he crossed his legs the other way instead, his gaze locked onto Nicolas’s back.

“Nat, we’ve been waiting for you,” Nicolas called out from across the way, waving them over with a bright smile.

“Sorry we’re late,” Natasha said as she walked up to him.

Nicolas quickly shook his head. “Not at all; you’re right on time. Let me show you around first.”

Natasha and Dorothy kept following Nicolas further inside. When Natasha’s eyes met Jared’s again from across the way she looked away once more.

A flicker of disappointment crossed Jared’s eyes. Just then, a few of the rich kids nearby started gossiping.

“Nicolas never changes. Spots a pretty girl and forgets all about us. Not even going to introduce her,” someone said.

“But Nicolas’s already married, right? Why’s he clinging to another pretty girl like that? Isn’t he scared his wife will chew him out when he gets home?” another chimed in.

“Come on, did you see that girl? She’s top-tier. If I were him, I couldn’t resist either,” a third guy echoed.

“Man, it’s been ages since I’ve seen a babe that stunning. Her curves are out of this world. No way we’re letting Nicolas hog her all to himself,” the fourth guy said.

Jared’s brows furrowed as he overheard the guys gossiping about Natasha. ‘Why does she attract so much attention?’ he wondered.

An unexplainable sense of displeasure and faint annoyance kept gnawing at Jared’s chest, refusing to go away.

Natasha had no clue those rich kids were all eyeing her. She was exploring the horse ranch with Dorothy, taking in the sights.

Nicolas was beaming with pride as he showed them around, introducing the new horses he had brought in and mentioning he’d be racing one of them himself soon.

Dorothy listened with keen interest. Natasha rested her hand on the railing, seeming a little absent-minded.

The stables were open-air, so nothing blocked her view. From where Natasha stood, she could see everything happening with Jared and his crew.

She noticed the rich kids hanging around Jared kept looking over at her every so often.

Natasha had no idea what they were talking about, but just then, Nicolas suggested, “The weather’s great today. Would you like to learn how to ride?”

Natasha was about to decline, but Dorothy jumped in with a bright smile. “Sure, that sounds fun. Thanks, Mr. Milford.”

Nicolas replied, “My pleasure.” Then he led them toward the dressing room.

Even though it was a private horse ranch, the dressing room was surprisingly spacious. It was divided into two sections, each with eight individual changing stalls.

“Dorothy, why don’t you go ahead and change? I’ll wait for you outside,” Natasha said, not really up for riding lessons.

But Dorothy grabbed her arm. “Come on, we’re already here. Let’s learn together, okay?”

Seeing how excited Dorothy was, Natasha didn’t want to be a bummer, so she decided to stick around and learn with her for a bit.

Nicolas grabbed two sets of women’s riding outfits from a nearby locker reminded them to change into the outfits, and left the room.

Successfully unlocked!

Natasha and Dorothy each went into separate Stanton Luuk off her clothes and changed into the bright red riding outfit she was holding.

But she couldn’t get the belt right. Just as Natasha was about to ask Dorothy for help with the belt, the curtain behind Wer rustled.

A rush of cold air swept in, carrying Jared’s distinct masculine scent that seemed to fill the room. Before Natasha could react, he had pressed her against the wall behind her.

“Why are you here?” Natasha felt his gaze was sharp and almost aggressive. She leaned back against the wall, trying to keep her distance.

“This isn’t your ranch, you know,” Natasha muttered, clearly annoyed. Thinking about how cold Jared had been to her lately, she couldn’t bring herself to be nice.

She hadn’t even wanted to come. But Nicolas had sent a car to pick up Dorothy, then waited outside Natasha’s apartment for her.

It would have been rude to refuse, especially since Nicolas was Joelle’s husband. She couldn’t afford to offend him.

Jared’s hazel eyes were piercing, with an intimidating depth in them. “Is that so? With just a word from me, you wouldnt even be allowed in here.”

“You!” His words caught her off guard, leaving her fuming and annoyed. ‘What did I ever do to piss him off?’ she wondered.

“Let me go,” Natasha said, instinctively trying to break free from his grip. Instead of letting go, Jared took the belt from her hands and wrapped it around her waist.

With a swift pull, he tightened and secured it. Natasha was pulled into his arms, the belt binding them together. In the cramped locker room stall, their bodies were pressed together.

Their breaths tangled in the air. Their breathing grew deeper, heavier, filling the room with a sense of urgency. Natasha was frozen, too scared to even twitch.

Every breath she took was saturated with Jared’s masculine scent. It felt like if either of them made the slightest move, things would spiral out of control.

“Mr. Rundell, I was out of line earlier. Please forgive me. Don’t take it personally,” Natasha said, trying to smooth things over.

Even though it wasn’t work hours and they weren’t at the office, Natasha wondered if she had been way too bold with Jared just now.
