Chapter 70 She Saw Everything

Chapter 70 She Saw Everything

Jared had already turned and headed straight for his office.

Natasha couldn’t help but cough a couple of times.

“Ms. Whittier, you don’t look so good. Are you coming down with something?” Derek asked, walking over with concern..

“I do feel a bit under the weather, but it’s nothing serious,” Natasha replied, shaking her head with a smile.

Derek couldn’t help but worry. “You’re just like Mr. Rundell, always pushing yourself too hard!”

As he spoke, Derek handed her a few boxes of medicine. “Mr. Rundell came to work even though he’s still not fully recovered. Could you do me a favor and remind him to take these on time?”

“Me? I’m not sure I can…” Natasha’s smile froze, genuinely awkward.

Derek had no idea she’d just pissed Jared off last night.

Heading to Jared’s office now was probably going to get her chewed out.

And now Derek wanted her to convince Jared to take his medicine. She felt that she could not actually pull that off.

“Ms. Whittier, I’m counting on you!” Derek gave her a look that said he was really depending on her.

No one but her had ever managed to get Jared to actually take his meds.

So it had to be her.

Derek didn’t give her a chance to say no. He stuffed the medicine boxes into her arms and walked off.

Feeling helpless, Natasha just had to take the boxes of medicine back to her own office.

She followed the instructions, popped out a few pills from each box, and headed to Jared’s office with them.

When she knocked on the door and stepped inside, Jared was sitting upright in his executive chair, reviewing documents.

Hearing the sound, he looked up at her.

Natasha was dressed formally at the office.

She wore a crisp white business suit, the collar slightly open, and underneath, a pale yellow silk camisole that showed off her delicate collarbone.

She looked perfectly proper, but there was an innocent allure about her, subtle, yet impossible to ignore.

Jared’s throat went dry as he fixated on her, unable to tear his eyes away for what felt like ages.

Natasha felt uneasy all over under his intense gaze, her nerves prickling.

“Is there something you need, Mr. Rundell?” she finally asked, unable to hold back.

Jared’s voice was low and husky. “Come here.”

Natasha hesitated for a moment, but still walked over to him.

Natasha stood stiffly in front of his desk.

Jared unceremoniously tossed a file her way.

“Take this and go over it carefully. Next week, you’re coming with me to Thalruar to sign the contract,” he said. Natasha paused, stunned.

She thought, ‘Turns out he actually wanted to talk business.

‘So he’s not here to give me hell for that slap last night?’

She breathed a silent sigh of relief.

“Yes, Mr. Rundell!” she replied quickly.

She quickly took the file and glanced at it.

Those big “BC” letters at the top looked really familiar.

Her mind flashed back to yesterday, when she’d picked up the proposal Marsh dropped, the header looked almost exactly the same as this one.

Natasha wondered, ‘Wait, could it be the same document?

‘But didn’t Marsh take the BC Project yesterday?’

“Is there something else?” Jared’s cold, deep voice suddenly broke her train of thought.

His icy tone snapped Natasha out of her thoughts.

Natasha snapped back to reality, just about to mention to Jared that yesterday she’d bumped into Marsh outside his office, and he’d been carrying a file that looked almost identical.

But she swallowed the words before they could escape.

She thought, ‘What if they’re not even the same file?

‘Jumping to conclusions and tattling would only make things worse.

“Nope, nothing!” Natasha replied, shaking her head.

She was about to leave when it hit her that Derek had asked her to remind Jared to take his meds.

“Oh, almost forgot! Mr. Rundell, it’s about time for your medicine,” Natasha said.

She passed the meds she’d brought right over to Jared.

Jared frowned, his brows drawing together. “How did these end up with you?”

Natasha hurried to explain, “Mr. Mulder asked me to bring them in and remind you to take them.”

Jared felt a pang of disappointment.

He narrowed his eyes, his voice cold and flat. “Just because he told you to bring them in, you did? Who gave you the right to remind me to take my medicine?”

Natasha froze for a second.

She wasn’t anyone special to him, so of course she had no right.

She thought, ‘Does he really think I want to remind him? Derek was the one who pushed this on me!

‘You really don’t appreciate when someone’s trying to help, Natasha muttered under her breath..

She shot him a look, her lips curling in annoyance as she mumbled quietly.

“What did you just say?” Jared’s eyes grew sharp, his expression turning icy.

Natasha gritted her teeth and just blurted it out. “If you’re still mad about last night, fine, I’ll let you slap me back! But do you really have to twist someone’s good intentions like that?”

Jared’s intense gaze fixed on her.

Natasha felt Jared’s gaze was so sharp and intimidating, it was almost like a knife pointed right at her.

She was already starting to regret standing up to him.

After all, he was her boss. Pissing him off was only going to make things worse for her.

Natasha was already scrambling for an excuse to make a quick escape.

But Jared was quicker. He slipped his arm around her waist before she could move.

Before she could even react, she was already pulled into his arms.

“That slap? I’ll let it go for now. But last night, you walked in on me in the shower. How are you going to explain that?” Jared leaned in, his voice low and dangerous.

Natasha’s eyelid twitched.

She hurried to defend herself, “It wasn’t spying! I swear, it was just a total accident last night…”

How was she supposed to know that was his bathroom?

And she definitely didn’t expect him to be in the shower at that exact moment.

Jared tilted her chin up, his voice low and intense. “Fact is, you got a full view of me.”

Natasha met his gaze and saw the fire burning in his eyes.

She couldn’t help but blurt out, “Mr. Rundell, are you trying to take advantage of me or something?”

He was holding her so tightly, she couldn’t even move.

She was locked in his arms, unable to budge an inch.

Jared nipped at her lips. “That’s right. I want to take advantage of you.”

His eyes darkened, his breath ragged, and he pulled her even tighter against him.

Natasha looked completely distressed.

She thought, ‘Seriously? Just because I saw him naked, now he wants to sleep with me?’

No matter how you looked at it, she was definitely getting the raw deal here.

All she did was catch a glimpse. It was not like she actually did anything to him. He wasn’t missing anything.

Just then, the intercom on his desk buzzed.
