Chapter 80 Stay at His Place

Chapter 80 Stay at His Place

The doctor said, “The patient was badly injured in the accident. She has multiple fractures and severe internal bleeding.

“She’s still in critical condition. The next 48 hours are crucial. If she doesn’t regain consciousness during that time, she might never wake up again.”

Natasha’s face turned pale. “What do you mean, never wake up again?”

The doctor sighed regretfully. “It means she could end up in a vegetative state.”

‘A vegetative state?’ Natasha thought, her mind reeling.

Her head was spinning, like it was about to explode.

Her chest felt like it had been punched, a sharp pain spreading through her.

Her eyes widened in shock.

Natasha thought, ‘No…

‘How could Dorothy become a vegetable?’

She just couldn’t accept it.

Natasha’s eyes suddenly welled up with tears.

She couldn’t take it anymore. The emotional burden was overwhelming.

Her vision blurred, and she collapsed.

Natasha woke up just as dawn was breaking.

She opened her eyes and saw an unfamiliar, luxurious ceiling above her.

She paused, feeling a bit lost.

‘Where am I?’ she wondered.

“You’re awake?” Before she could process anything, she suddenly heard a deep, magnetic voice right beside her.

Natasha instinctively turned her head, only to be taken aback by a strikingly handsome face just inches from her own.

“Mr. Rundell?” she blurted out.

She gasped and quickly looked around.

Natasha thought, ‘Wait, this isn’t my bedroom.

‘How did I end up here?’

“Where am I? How did I get here?” she asked, frowning in confusion.

But what she really wanted to ask was, ‘Why am I in his bed?’

Jared explained quietly, “This is my home. You fainted yesterday, do you remember? I brought you back here.”

Everything that happened before she lost consciousness flashed through Natasha’s mind.

Natasha shot up in bed.

“Dorothy!” she cried out.

She remembered how Dorothy had been hit by that black car while trying to save her, rushed to the ER, and the doctor had said she might never regain consciousness.

Panic surged through Natasha as she threw off the covers, desperate to get out of bed.

Jared frowned when he saw her move. “Where are you going?”

Natasha didn’t hesitate. “To the hospital.”

Before she could take another step, a strong arm locked around her waist.

Jared pulled her back, trapping her firmly in his embrace.

Though she was slender, her body was graceful and curvy, he could feel every delicate line pressed against him.

Holding her close, he felt a sudden rush of warmth, as if his heart was overflowing.

“I’ve already hired a professional nurse to look after your friend at the hospital. There’s no need for you to worry,” Jared said in a low voice.

‘How could I possibly not worry?’ Natasha thought, her heart twisting with anxiety.

Especially since Dorothy was only in the hospital because she had saved her, Natasha could never forget that.

She couldn’t just ignore Dorothy and pretend nothing had happened.

Let me go. I have to go to the hospital!” Natasha snapped, her voice urgent and desperate.

She beat against his chest with all her strength, furious and struggling to break free.

“You’re not going anywhere right now. You have to stay here for now,” Jared said, holding her shoulders firmly/and meeting her gaze with determination.

Natasha’s beautiful eyes were guarded, full of suspicion.

“What do you mean?” she demanded, her tone defensive.

‘Is he planning to exploit my weakness and lock me up in his house?’ Natasha wondered, her heart racing with anxiety

Jared’s expression turned grave, his handsome features shadowed with concern.

He reminded her in a low, serious voice, “Your friend ended up in the hospital because she tried to save you. But have you ever considered that the black car was actually targeting you?”

Natasha nodded, still a bit dazed.

Her heart was in turmoil, waves of emotion crashing over her.

“Are you saying someone is trying to kill me?” she asked, her voice trembling.

Jared’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous glint in his gaze. “Someone wants you dead.

“Just because they missed their chance last time doesn’t mean they won’t try again. Right now, staying here with me is your safest option.”

Natasha asked, bewildered, “Who are they? Why do they want me gone so badly?”

Jared warned, “You’ve been caught up in the BC Project leak scandal. You’re trying to prove your innocence, but the mastermind wants to stop you and keep you taking the fall.

“The most foolproof way for them is to shut you up for good.”

Natasha’s face suddenly drained of color, fear flashing across her features.

‘I can’t believe I’m already caught up in something this dangerous, she thought, her heart racing.

She quietly balled her fists, trying to keep herself together.

Swallowing her panic, she insisted, “But even so, I can’t just leave Dorothy behind, can I?”

Jared said, his frown deepening, “You’re barely keeping yourself safe, and you’re still thinking about someone else?

“Have you ever considered that if you show up at the hospital now, the person who hit you yesterday could come back to finish what they started?

“Do you really want your friend’s sacrifice to mean nothing?”

Natasha was at a loss for words. “I…”

If the mastermind really wanted her dead, showing up at the hospital would be like walking right into their trap.

“Fine, I’ll just call the cops!” Natasha blurted out.

She stared Jared down for a few seconds, an idea sparking in her mind.

Jared scoffed. “Call the cops? What makes you think they’ll actually do anything?”

Natasha retorted, “That black car tried to run me over yesterday. There’s gotta be something on the security footage…” Jared gave her a long look. “There were no cameras where the accident happened yesterday.”

Natasha’s heart skipped a beat.

She thought, ‘No cameras? That means there’s zero evidence, right?

‘How are the police supposed to believe someone’s actually after me?’

She quickly put it all together. “Marsh must’ve realized I was tailing him. He deliberately lured me to that spot, someone was already lying in wait, ready to take me out.”

She thought, ‘If I died, no one would ever know the truth.

‘Then they’d make me take the fall for the BC Project leak, no questions asked.’

Jared raised an eyebrow, a trace of admiration in his gaze. “Guess you’re not as clueless as I thought.”
