Chapter 123 Power Chickens and Parting Words
Time moved differently inside the space.
In about five or six hours, the chicks would be fully grown.
She stood up and checked on the hen that had run off earlier.
She fed a bit of cobalt fluid to the hen, too. She’d check the results later.
Then, she got back to training. Every minute counted.
Finishe
The upgrade hadn’t expanded the pool like she’d hoped, but housing live animals was an even bigger win.
Training felt easier now. More power behind each movement.
She was already looking forward to what a level 4 crystal would do to the blank space.
“Cecelia?”
The car stopped. Hendrick’s voice reached her.
Cecelia ended her session, snapped back to reality, opened her eyes, and yawned. The picture of someone who’d just woken from a nap.
“Hold on.”
Hendrick stopped her before she got out. “Quick question. After Merriton, you’re not heading to Briar City?”
Cecelia looked at him. “We’ll see.”
She got out.
Hendrick watched her unhurried walk back toward the safe house. His eyes darkened.
Before, when the group had agreed to head for Briar City, Cecelia hadn’t objected.
So, she was probably going.
Which meant they’d still be traveling together.
Cecelia returned to the safe house and told the others to get ready to move.
Amber asked, “Cecelia, are we still riding with Timothy’s vehicle?”
“Yeah.”

“Once we’re in Merriton, priority is finding our own wheels.”
“Got it.”
Amber nodded.
The four of them headed to where Timothy’s team was assembling.
Hendrick patted the hood of his SUV and called over to Cecelia’s group. “You’re with me.”
“Sure.”
Cecelia waved Ivy and the others into the car.
On the other side, Cillian–sent back by Jayson–had already rallied his people. They fell in behind Matthew’s truck.
Regina’s drone was already sending back live footage.
Finished
She flagged Timothy over. “Timothy, those dead mutated rats–Hendrick said they were poisoned by some other mutated creature.”
“Mm.”
Timothy could see the road ahead.
More dead rats than he’d imagined.
He didn’t want to think about what would’ve happened if they hadn’t listened to Cecelia and evacuated in time.
How would they have survived a swarm that size?
“Timothy, are we really not going to be on the same team as Ivy and Cecelia anymore?”
Regina had been sitting on the question. She finally let it out.
Timothy’s gaze dropped. “That was already decided. Why are you still on this?”
Regina pressed her lips together. “With Ivy, our team would be stronger. Isn’t that obvious?”
“It is. But, Regina, haven’t you noticed? We’ve become completely dependent on Ivy’s healing.”
Timothy turned the question back on her.
Regina blinked. “What do you mean?”
“Hendrick and I both know that letting Cecelia and Ivy leave right now isn’t smart. But the bigger issue is the trust breakdown between Cecelia and us. And the team’s over–reliance on healing.”
Timothy spoke with weight, his expression grave.
Cecelia wasn’t like the other members.
Chapter 123 Power Chickens and Parting Words
She wasn’t someone who could be managed.
She’d never intended to stay permanently.
Jayson had called Jerome a jinx–claimed keeping him would bring disaster.
And what had happened after they took Jerome in did seem to support that.
3ut more importantly, Hendrick had pointed out that Jerome almost certainly wasn’t Cecelia’s real
rother.
