Chapter 149 Not the Right Place
Before long, the zombies had completely surrounded their vehicles.

They clawed and grabbed wildly, their bloodstained fingernails scraped nonstop against the windows.
Cecelia stayed calm. She climbed out through the rear window and onto the roof, moving quickly as she began cutting down zombies one after another.
Hendrick, Timothy, and the others started fighting as well.
In less than a minute, dozens of ordinary zombies had already been taken down.
For them now, these zombies were no longer a real threat.
Dealing with them took almost no effort at all.
Cecelia stood on the roof of the vehicle and looked toward the town. She frowned slightly. “There’s fencing around the place. Looks like there are survivors inside.”
The barrier was made of large sections of metal wire fencing.
ng by the scale, it was clearly something built after the apocalypse began.
thought about it for a moment, then climbed back into the vehicle and said to Ivy and the ers, “We’re heading to the next town.”
ked puzzled. “Cece, isn’t it a good thing if there are survivors? We could stay there for the hight and leave tomorrow. That shouldn’t be a problem.”
“No.”
Cecelia looked at her and said, “In the apocalypse, the living can be more dangerous than zombies. On this trip, we avoid other survivor groups whenever possible.”
She wanted to save her energy for killing mutated zombies and mutated beasts so she could collect crystals and level up.
She did not want to waste time dealing with other survivor groups.
So after returning to the driver’s seat, she immediately began backing the vehicle up.
When Hendrick saw this, he knocked on her window. “Not staying to rest?”
Cecelia glanced toward the town. “This isn’t a good place to stop.”

Hendrick understood immediately.
A town with survivors would likely bring more trouble than safety.
He paused briefly and nodded. “Alright. Then we’ll find another place.”
Cecelia did not respond. She finished backing up and drove off.
Timothy watched her leave and turned to Hendrick. “Where is she going?”
“Looking for another place to stop.”
“Isn’t this place fine? There are survivors here. Maybe…”
Too much trouble.
ndrick glanced at the cargo truck Ryan was driving and said to Timothy, “We stand out too
h as targets.”
mothy understood what he meant.
small town like this was probably already struggling to survive.
eople here might not even have enough supplies themselves.
If Cecelia’s group stopped there, their belongings might disappear before they left.
They had not run into something like that since the apocalypse began. But that did not mean it could never happen.
Human nature was often the most fragile thing when tested.
Timothy did not say anything else and got back into the vehicle with Hendrick.
Soon, they turned the vehicle around and caught with with Cecelia’s.
Inside the cargo truck Ryan was driving, he asked Matthew in confusion, “When did Hendrick become Cecelia’s shadow? Whatever she does, he just follows along!”
“Oh?”
Matthew looked at him in surprise. “You’re not calling her a freeloader anymore?”
Ryan remembered the moment Cecelia had risked her life killing the level 4 mutated giant snake. His mouth twitched as he complained, “Compared to freeloader, the word crazy describes her way better!”

“Huh? Why do you say that?”
Matthew did not know about the giant snake.
After they returned earlier, everyone had been busy. Hendrick had only mentioned that Ceceli killed the snake and the crystal belonged to her.
Matthew and Regina had not thought much of it.
Because Timothy quickly explained that everyone had helped during the fight, but Cecelia delivered the final blow.
But none of them had explained exactly how she killed it.
Ryan finally described what happened. “That mutated snake didn’t have any weak points on the outside. Even hitting its vital spot wouldn’t break through. It had poisonous fangs, so Cecelia jumped straight into its mouth and cut open the roof of its mouth to get the crystal.”
Matthew froze for a moment. “Wasn’t that basically risking her life?”
The giant snake’s venom could be seen everywhere on the mutated rats.
Even a small amount touching the skin would cause severe rot.
It was hard to imagine how Cecelia had managed to pull it off.
“And she didn’t even stop to think about her sister?”
Matthew found it hard to believe. Cecelia cared about Ivy so much. It did not make sense that she would risk her life so easily.
Ryan snorted. “Who knows? All I know is that she’s a total maniac!”
“She really is.”
Matthew sighed. “But it’s also pretty admirable. From what you described, if she hadn’t taken that kind of desperate risk, the snake wouldn’t have died. It might have escaped, and there would have been no crystal.”
“Pretty much…”
Ryan frowned deeply, clearly unwilling to talk about it anymore. He slapped the steering wheel hard. “We need to level up as soon as possible. A half–dead, mutated snake already gave us that much trouble. If we run into a level 4 mutated beast at full strength, we might not even get the chance to run!”

Matthew looked at him with some surprise. “I didn’t expect you to think that far ahead.”
Ryan rolled his eyes at him. “Isn’t that the most important thing for our team right now? Hendrick already said we’re heading to Sanctum City to level up. The stronger we become, th better our chances of surviving in this apocalypse!”
“Yeah.”
Matthew nodded approvingly. “Looks like you’re finally using your brain.”
“Are you insulting me?”
“No. I’m complimenting you.”
“Who compliments someone by saying they’re finally using their brain?”
“Why not? That’s exactly what I’m doing.”

side the town they had just left behind, at the top floor of the tallest building, a middle–aged man wearing a sleeveless shirt watched the vehicles leaving outside the town. He frowned as he watched.
