Chapter 203 The Ones Who Had Done This Before

A level 4 mutated zombie stood at a threshold. It had basic judgment, enough to vaguely sense that this group
of humans, taken together, was dangerous. But it still could not tell what level Cecilia and the others
were.
Then it thought of the underlings behind it, the ones that had just been blown apart, and fury rose inside it.
After staring at Cecilia’s group for a long moment, it opened its mouth and let out a harsh, threatening hiss. At the same time, it bent low, gathering itself to spring.
“Captain Carter, it’s coming!” Cade shouted, then spun around and yelled to the men behind him. “Move it, boys. Grab your weapons!”
The level 4 mutated zombie was incredibly fast. In the blink of an eye, it was right in front of them.
Hendrick struck first. His wind blade made no sound. It was invisible to the eye, but the chill it carried could still be felt.
Timothy didn’t hesitate either. He attacked again and again, condensing his ice ability into a six–feet shield and hurling it straight at the level 4 zombie. Their combined assault did manage to slow it for a moment.
Cecilia told Oliver and the others to get out of the vehicle and move closer to Morton’s side.
Morton narrowed his eyes at once, noticing the short–haired girl leading people toward him. She looked young, no more than 19, her face still soft with youth. But the expression on it was far calmer than expected.
Beside him, Cade called out again, “Captain Carter, what’s the plan? Those two brats can’t handle that mutated zombie.”
“Do I really need to answer that? Get in there.”
Morton shot him a look, crushed out the cigarette in his hand, and looked one step away from rolling his
eyes.
Cade grinned. “I just wanted to check whether you planned to handle it yourself, Captain Carter. Didn’t want to steal your thunder. Plenty of young girls watching, after all.”
Men were men. They always liked showing off a little in front of girls. One admiring look and their satisfaction shot straight up.
“Get lost.”
Morton barked the words without the slightest courtesy, then kicked Cade in the rear. Move already. Less
talk.”
“Got it
With a gun in cach hand, Cade shouted for the others while calling to a masked man lying prone on top of the last vehicle. “Sean, make it count!”

Sean flashed him an OK sign.
At once, Cade led a group forward, firing at the level 4 mutated zombie as they advanced. Timothy and Hendrick could only hold the line for two minutes before they hit their limit.
Back when Cecilia was still level 3, the combined strength of their two level 3 abilities plus hers had only been enough to deal with a level 3 mutated zombie.
This time, they were facing a level 4. The gap was simply too large. Even working together, they could not stall it for long.
The level 4 mutated zombie dodged with frightening speed. Hendrick’s wind blades could not land on it, barely clipping a few strands of hair at most.
The ice shield fared no better. One punch from the zombie shattered it into countless pieces that rained onto the ground.
The levels of their powers were still far too low compared to the creature in front of them. They were never going to hold it back for long.
Hearing Cade shouting from behind, Hendrick immediately grabbed Timothy and pulled him into
retreat.
Gunfire erupted in a relentless burst. Shell casings spilled to the ground as the submachine guns kept firing.
And still, the level 4 mutated zombie was able to evade the bullets. It even ducked behind a wrecked car nearby.
Timothy and Hendrick ran back to Cecilia’s group, sweat streaming down their faces.

Their weapons could kill plenty of ordinary zombies, even level 1 or level 2 mutated zombies. But against level 3s, they became far less useful.
Still, no matter how underpowered they were, numbers made a difference.
Right now, Cade and his men were fighting with complete disregard for ammunition costs. At best, they could force the level 4 zombie back a certain distance. They still had no way to truly take it down.
If anyone was going to finish it…
Cecilia glanced at the man leaning against a vehicle, lighting another cigarette with unhurried ease, watching the whole thing like a spectator.
Morton was one of the future top ten powerhouses of the apocalypse. His ability was a spatial type with terrifying offensive power.
Like Jerome and Blake, he belonged to the ranks of the legendary figures who would later stand at the pinnacle of the superbase.
From what she had heard, his ability had not needed crystals to level up in the beginning. He had developed it on his own.
Just like everyone else at that time, before the discovery that crystals could be used for advancement, the
only way to grow stronger was by continuously draining one’s ability, pushing past limits, and forcibly widening internal channels.
By the time everyone discovered that ability crystals could be used to level up, Morton’s spatial ability had already left man
behind.
