Chapter 228 A Choice to Follow
“Cecelia…”
Draven froze for a moment, staring blankly at Cecelia’s side profile.
At that moment, he felt that she was insanely cool.
She actually agreed just like that to let him join her team!
He was so excited he almost cried.
But Cecelia ignored him and continued looking at Mike. “Or do you want the supplies and not your teammate’s life?”
“No!”
inished
Mike looked at her, glanced at the supplies inside, and said in a low voice, “We can let go of everything Draven did before, for your sake. Just release our teammate now.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Then the three of you step back.”
As soon as Cecelia said that, Mike’s expression turned serious. He signaled Richard and Humbert to retreat toward the road.
When the distance between both sides reached about twenty meters, Cecelia released Jocelyn and pushed
her toward them.
Jocelyn stumbled, her face pale as she fell to the ground.
Richard helped her up and brought her back to Mike.
From afar, Mike stared at Cecelia and said in a low voice, “Let’s end things here today. This is the Eastern District. I hope next time we meet, we can still cooperate, Ms. York.”
“Of course.”
Cecelia wore a standard smile and waved at them.
“Mike…
Richard was unwilling, gritting his teeth as he said quietly to Mike, “She’s alone.”
“Let’s go!”
Mike shot him a look.
Richard glanced again at Cecelia and Draven hiding behind her, clearly unwilling, but still supported

Once they were out of sight, Humbert spoke slowly, “That woman’s ability level is higher than ours. It’s not about numbers–it’s that we don’t understand her. I noticed something earlier. Aside from the supplies we could see at the front, the rest of the warehouse was empty.”

n said weakly, forcing a smile. “I really didn’t sense her presence at all and she didn’t hold back when ttacked. Now that Draven joined her team, do you think she’ll listen to him and come after us?”
Mike stopped the bleeding on her arm as he replied, “She’s clearly the leader. She wouldn’t be that reckless. I think she wasn’t lying–she only saved him because of the supplies he gave her.”
Humbert added, “This is the apocalypse. Profit–based cooperation is more reliable than love, friendship. or family.”
Mike didn’t say anything more and told Richard to drive.
The car sped off down the road.
A group of zombies, hearing the noise, began chasing after it.

“Cecelia, what you said earlier about letting me join your team, was that real?”
“No.”
Draven was stunned.

His expression froze and laughed awkwardly. “Cecelia, does joining your team require some kind of test? Want to test me?”
“Why do you want to join my team?”
Cecelia asked calmly. “With your ability, surviving in this apocalypse isn’t that hard, as long as you don’t mess with the wrong people.”
Draven gave a bitter smile. “Cecelia, it’s not that simple. You just arrived in the Western District today, so you don’t know. The peace there is fake. I told you before, even the military can’t get close to Kaezer Group.”
“Zombies are gathering more and more. The military says some mutated zombies have already developed human awareness. They’re extremely dangerous. To put it simply, the Western District will fall sooner or later. I’ve already prepared to leave this place. I just need a team willing to take me in.”
Then, worried that Cecelia might reject him because of his past actions, he sighed again.
“I don’t want to stay in the Western District and wait to die. Before, I picked up leftovers because I was weak and resources were hard to find. Everyone did things like that just to survive. If people could be strong enough to live comfortably in this apocalypse, who wouldn’t want to be a good person?”
If only he could wipe out zombies as easily as breathing…
