Chapter 244 The Great Exodus
“I’m only making a comparison. Next to that psychic user, you are a scrub.
Ryan’s retort died in his throat.
He shot him a glare. “You seriously want to piss me to death!”
Matthew shook his head, straight–faced. “Can’t do that. If you died, who’d be our comic relief?”
Ryan’s mouth clamped shut.
He was done talking.
Finched.
Timothy glanced at Hendrick. “Whoever that man is, recruiting strong people is the right call. Cecelia’s instincts are sound. He’s a definite upgrade over Jerome.”
“Oh–Hendrick. Fill Cecelia on what happened with the troops earlier once we settle at the new safe
house.”
Hendrick lounged back, arms crossed. “Pass. You do it.”
What?
Timothy looked completely confused. What the hell had gotten into this guy?
The Western District evacuation was in full swing.
7) Jobs
Only one road out, and predictably, it was gridlocked.
The military had dispatched advance teams to clear the route.
Cecelia’s convoy
“So many people.”
could only crawl along with the flow.
Amber had her face pressed to the window.
Their SUV sat high off the ground.
The survivors on foot had to crane their necks to see inside.
From the windows, all Cecelia could see was an ocean of heads, all shuffling toward the exit.
The pace was painfully slow.
The Western District had a lot of survivors.
It took about three hours before Cecelia’s vehicle reached the Western District boundary.
Timothy’s team had already sent someone to retrieve their
cargo
truck.

Chapter 244 The Great Exodus
Twenty or thirty miles past the boundary, the road forked.
One branch led to Dewfron City.
Finished
Moving this many survivors to Dewfron was going to be a massive logistical operation–not simple by any stretch.
The specifics of how they’d pull it off-
Cecelia wasn’t interested.
Military brass would handle it. They’d consider every angle. It wasn’t her job to worry.
Sure enough, by the time the evacuees reached the Dewfron road, everything was already orderly.
Armed soldiers lined the route.
Ability users patrolled the flanks, picking off any approaching zombies.
Plenty of people–like Cecelia–chose not to follow the main group to Dewfron City.
Vehicles peeled off onto the other fork, one after another.
Cecelia’s sharp eyes caught Mike’s convoy passing ahead of them.
Draven was surprised. “They’re not going with the military? Tennibar Island would be a great option for most survivors.”
If he hadn’t hitched his wagon to Cecelia, he’d have gone with the convoy in a heartbeat.
But now that he’d found himself a strong backer, things were different.
Knowing that reaching Level 4 required the team to hunt Level 4 mutated zombies together, he was functionally inseparable from Cecelia’s crew.
Staying here, he would definitely become stronger.
And only the strong survived in this world.
“The military has likely spread the word about the crystals. If Mike and his crew have brains, they won’t leave Sanctum City easily. They’ll probably do what we’re doing–find a safe house nearby and head back to Sanctum City later to keep hunting mutated zombies.”
Cecelia watched Mike’s RV pull ahead and disappear.
It was a modified vehicle–custom armor plating. Interesting.
That gave her an idea. “Amber, if we found an RV, could you modify it?”
Amber had seen Mike’s ride, too. She caught on immediately. “I can learn, Boss! The exterior work
shouldn’t be too hard.”
“Cecelia, I know this stuff!”

Draven’s hand shot up. “I used to work at a custom car shop for rich kids. Picked up a lot of tricks.
He puffed up with pride, his red–dyed hair practically bouncing.
Cecelia looked him over, mildly impressed. “So, you’re a man of many talents?”
“Heh, Cecelia, I won’t lie to you–it was all forced by life! If I were some rich kid or a wealthy man, would I need to scramble around like this? I’m 35 this year. I’ve been working since I was 15 years old. That’s 20 years already. I managed to save up over 10 million, but I don’t even have a girlfriend. Sigh…”
“Wait.”
Amber interrupted. “You’re 35?”
“Yep! Can’t tell, right?”
Draven rubbed his face and flashed a grin. “Probably the dark skin. Plus, staying positive keeps you young!”
Amber was speechless.
She forced a smile. “Then, how do you have the nerve to call us your seniors?”
“Age is irrelevant! Skill is everything. You’re all stronger than me, so you’re all my seniors. Blake’s my bro. Oliver’s my bro. I’m the weakest link in this entire squad!”
Draven’s mouth was a marvel of engineering–he hoisted everyone else onto pedestals while cheerfully burying himself in the basement. Maximum humility, maximum survival instinct.
A person like that could thrive in any team.
Amber cared about the age thing because she was the youngest on the squad.
