Chapter 287 A Hard Plan
Sabrina quickly triekig calm him down. “Rex, my parents still havent been found. That’s why we came here, remember? I just doirs want you begging others to hunt zombies and bring back crystals just so I can level up.
“You did this for me.”
Rex was deeply moved. He pulled her into a tight hug. “Don’t worry, Sabrina. If you go, I go. I won’t let those jerks bully you!”
Sabrina smiled but said nothing. Her lowered eyes hid the flash of annoyance in them.
No. She didn’t want him to go at all.
If Rex stayed with her, he would only get in the way of what she needed to do…
Sanctum was nearly 120 miles away.
The population there wasn’t large, so clearing zombies would be easier. It could become a great place to build a base in the future.
Wesley watched as more and more regular soldiers gained abilities through late awakening. His eyes turned red with emotion.
“There’s hope!”
He grabbed Morton’s shoulder, his voice shaking. “Before, a third of our soldiers had no abilities. Now, most of them have awakened! I believe we can take back the Eastern District soon!”
“Not enough.”
Morton frowned. “There are far more mutated zombies near the Kaezer Group in the Eastern District tha we expected. My suggestion is this—after we settle the survivors we’ve evacuated, we gather all our forces. Then we call in every ability user we can and strike together.”
{‘ Wesley fell silent. His excitement cooled instantly, like cold water had been poured over him.
“That won’t be easy,” he said and slowly sat down. “Taking back the Eastern District will be a long fight. Most ability users still have families. They may not want to risk their lives with us.”
He paused, then continued, “Cecelia once suggested we lure large groups of mutated zombies and hunt them for crystals. Cade led a team and brought back quite a few Level 2 crystals. But it’s still not enough to support a long battle.”
Wesley’s face grew serious. He tapped his fingers on the table.
“And we still don’t know enough about the situation near the Kaczer Group. You can only scout so much by jumping in with your spatial ability. Didn’t you say that one of the zombies might have nouced you?”
“Yeah.

Morton adjusted the black wristband on his arm, his eyes dark. “I ran into a Level 5 mutated zombie today. I managed to get a crystal from it.”
He pulled out a faint purple crystal from his waist pouch.
Wesley stared in shock. “A Level 5 crystal? Then why aren’t you upgrading right away? Your spatial ability would improve a lot.”
“No rush.” Morton shook his head. “Upgrading can wait. Right now, the army comes first. If we’re going to clear the Eastern District, we need to move fast.” He continued, “Our heavy weapons are limited. Once we use them up, we can’t replace them. It would be best if we gather as many high–level ability users as possible. Wesley, you had quite a few in the Western District before, right?”
Morton lit a cigarette and looked at him.
Wesley nodded. “Most of them are Level 2 or Level 3 ability users. We barely have any Level 4.
“That’s enough.”
Morton narrowed his eyes and flicked ash from his cigarette. “Spread the word about crystals. Tell all ability users they can come to the Eastern District to hunt mutated zombies. Whatever they kill or gather is theirs to keep.”
Wesley understood right away. “You mean the army stays behind the scenes? We send out small teams like them to collect crystals. Just like when we opened the Eastern District before?”
“Exactly,” Morton said. “We’ve already secured the defensive line there for now. It won’t break anytime soon. And all the survivors have been moved out. That means the Western District can be set up as a place for ability users to stay while they hunt in the Eastern District.”
Wesley thought for a moment, then sighed. “The biggest problem is how we spread the news about crystals.”
They no longer had any communication systems.
The only way to pass messages was the most basic one–sending people to deliver them.
But that was far too slow.
Γ
“Radio?” Morton glanced at him. “Didn’t you use that before?”
Wesley let out a tired sigh. “That was over half a month ago. Our only radio got destroyed. A lightning- type ability user accidentally damaged it while fighting a mutated zombie that broke into the comm room. It can’t be fixed.”
Morton fell silent at this. He rubbed his temples. “Then send people out while rescuing survivors from nearby cities. Spread the message that way.”
“Yeah…” Wesley sighed again. “That’s the only option.”
Otherwise, if the army tried to organize everything themselves, they would have to take responsibility for all those ability users.

And they simply didn’t have the manpower.
They couldn’t offer anything besides crystals.
In fact, even their soldiers didn’t have enough crystals to use.
