Apocalypse God Mode: Unlocked (Cecilia) novel Chapter 298

Chapter 298 The Puppeteer’s Grip

Hiding crystals for themselves was impossible.

One thought from Demarcus, and they’d hand over everything involuntarily.

The horror of it was suffocating.

On top of that, two of their teammates had died horribly.

Cillian was certain that staying with Brandon meant death.

Jayson’s mood was equally black.

le wanted out.

ut Brandon’s methods were too bizarre, too airtight. There was simply no opening.

In less than two weeks, the three of them had been ground down into barely recognizable versions of themselves-pawns in Brandon’s game.

And it wasn’t just them.

Brandon had been steadily absorbing more people into his convoy.

Every single one was an ability user.

Compared to Jayson’s group, those newcomers had it/even worse.

Some of them had non-ability family members.

But during the convoy’s movements, those family members always seemed to “fall behind” in suspiciously convenient ways-injured, lost, dead.

Once they lost their loved ones and had nowhere else to go, the remaining ability users were forced to stay with Brandon.

Brandon’s tactics were crude-but devastatingly effective.

Despite living and traveling together, Jayson noticed that those who lost their families actually grew more trusting of Brandon.

Including Demarcus.

Demarcus had appeared five days ago. Brandon had brought him back from somewhere-a filthy, wild- eyed man with matted hair and a scraggly beard. He looked like a vagrant.

Despite being obviously older than Brandon-

He called Brandon “boss” without hesitation.

He trailed Brandon like a shadow, executing every order without question.

finshed

Including using his ability to mentally enslave other ability users.

Jayson was deeply wary of Demarcus. Every escape attempt had been detected and thwarted.

If they wanted to leave Brandon’s convoy, Demarcus had to die first.

“Hss-”

The instant the thought formed, a spike of white-hot pain drilled through Jayson’s skull. His ears rang.

He looked up through the car window.

Demarcus was standing outside. Those downturned, dead-fish eyes were locked directly on him.

In an instant, a wave of cold terror washed over Jayson. Goosebumps erupted down his spine.

It was just a thought, and Demarcus already found out.

What is this creature?

Jayson didn’t dare think further. He forced himself to look away and whispered to Cillian, “Stop talking. Those eyes are on us. They haven’t left.”

Cillian glanced out the window. The moment he met Demarcus’s gaze, his face went white. He bit his lip hard enough to draw blood, looking like he might cry. “But Jayson, Randy has a fever. We can’t just leave him. We need a healer, or the infection will kill him!”

Randy’s wound was from a crystal-hunting run for Brandon.

His arm had been hit by friendly fire from one of Brandon’s own men. It was bleeding badly.

Now it was inflamed and infected.

Jayson looked at Randy’s arm-angry red, swollen, hot to the touch. Without treatment, he’d lose the arm. Maybe his life.

Ever since the apocalypse began, Randy and Cillian were his closest teammates.

They were brothers, in everything but blood.

He couldn’t watch Randy die.

Jayson clenched his jaw, pushed the door open, and went to find Brandon. “I’ll ask for the healer

Brandon had recently acquired a Level 2 healer-treated as a core asset, always at his side.

He told Cillian to watch Randy, then walked toward Demarcus.

The

man was short. His lank hair hung over his face, and those perpetually hooded eyes tracked you like predator’s. Nobody could hold that stare for long.

Jayson forced himself to stand in front of him. “My teaminate Randy is a fire ability user. He was wounded

un a mission. The wound’s infected. Can you ask Brandon to let the healer treat him?”

Demarcus stared at him for a long time in silence.

“Demarcus, you used to have brothers, too. Could you really stand by and watch one of them die in front of you?”

Jayson tried to appeal to his emotions.
