Chapter 68 The Sudden Attack
Hendrick stood on the second–floor balcony, smoking.

A thin cloud of smoke drifted around him as he watched the small house where Brian and his group were staying.
He had been keeping an eye on it for hours, but Cecelia never showed up.
Did she give up on killing Zera? Or did she find another way?
Half an hour later, Cecelia returned to their safe house. She hummed softly while washing her hands in the kitchen.
Behind the house was an old well. The water was clean.
The place could have been perfect for surviving the apocalypse. There was water, farmland, and mountains nearby. It was far from the city. A family could have lived here for years.
But the people who once lived here had all died. They had turned into zombies.
And in this small town, there was not a single living person left.
Most of the zombies were elderly. Some were young children.
All of them were regular zombies. So far, there were no mutated ones.
“Hmm?”
Suddenly, a cold chill ran down Cecelia’s back.
She spun around and saw a shadow flash past the window.
It moved incredibly fast.
Her expression changed.
She shook the water off her hands and hurried outside.
The moment she stepped through the door, a woman’s terrified scream came from the house where Brian and the others were staying.
Cecelia ran.
At the same time, Hendrick jumped down from the second–floor balcony and landed in front of her.
Timothy jumped down beside him.
Only Ivy stayed upstairs. She leaned over the railing, shouting anxiously,

“Cece! Go check it out! Regina says she sensed a level 2 zombie!”
Regina stood next to her.
After leveling up, Regina’s sensing range had grown larger and faster.
But level 2 zombies moved fast as well. One had rushed into her sensing range almost instantly.
Hendrick and Timothy didn’t slow down. They ran straight toward Brian’s house.
Cecelia glanced up at Ivy.
“Don’t come outside. Stay with Matthew. There might be more zombies nearby.”
Ivy’s face tightened.
“Okay! Be careful!”
She quickly pulled Regina away to find Matthew.

Matthew was now a level 2 earth–type ability user. If a level 2 zombie attacked, he could hold it back for a
short time.
Cecelia reached the house. Zera suddenly ran out the door. She was covered in blood, her face pale with fear.
She grabbed Timothy’s arm.
“H–help! B–brian got bitten by a zombie!”
“Brian!” Amber’s desperate cry came from inside.
Cecelia and Hendrick rushed in.
The scene inside made their faces darken.
A small level 2 zombie with blood–red eyes was clinging to Brian’s shoulder. Its teeth were buried deep in his neck artery. It was feeding greedily.
Amber held a blade and tried to save him.
But the zombie snarled at her, ready to attack if she got closer.
Brian’s neck had been torn open.
Blood sprayed everywhere. His face was pale. His eyes were wide with shock as he stared toward Zera.
“Brian!” Amber was crying so hard she could barely breathe.
When she saw Cecelia and Hendrick, she begged, “Please! Please save my brother!”
Cecelia frowned.

With that much blood loss–and a bite from a level 2 mutated zombie–Brian would turn into a zombie within ten minutes.
There was no way to save him.
Although Ivy’s healing ability had mutated and reached the strength of a level 4 healer, it still couldn’t cure the zombie virus.
That would take at least level 7.
Meanwhile, Hendrick moved.
A wind blade shot forward and struck the zombie’s neck.
Crack!
Its neck was sliced halfway through.
The body fell sideways off Brian.
But its teeth still clung tightly to his neck.
Hendrick stepped forward again.
His dagger stabbed straight into the zombie’s head.
The creature finally stopped moving.
“Brian!”
Amber rushed over. Her eyes were swollen from crying.
She pressed both hands against Brian’s neck, trying to stop the bleeding.
