April Fools “Surprise” Husband Divorcing Me For His “Pure” Girl novel Chapter 58

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

I kept my voice even.

“I’m going to handle the paperwork for going abroad tomorrow. Can’t get out of it.”

“And your friend’s engagement-you should be there. It’s important. I’ll be fine on my own.”

He stared at me for a moment.

Then asked, carefully.

“If you’re not going… should I bring Isolde?”

In the past, just hearing her name would’ve set me off.

But now?

I smiled. “Sure. Go ahead.”

He searched my face-looking for anger. Jealousy. Anything.

J

But he found nothing.

Finally, he couldn’t help asking.

Thessaly. Why aren’t you jealous at all?”

I looked at him, finding the question strange.

Hadn’t he always hated it when I got jealous?

Why would I be? She’s your friend. She gets along with your friends. It makes sense for you to bring her.”

He opened his mouth several times as if to say something, but nothing came out.

In the end, he said.

Then let me drive you tomorrow morning.”

I thought about it and didn’t refuse.

My head was still pounding from last night. Didn’t feel like driving.

Might as well.

When I agreed, he reached for my hand.

I stepped back.

His face twisted-confusion mixed with frustration.

“I didn’t sleep well last night. I need a nap. You should rest too.”

Before he could respond, I turned and went into the bedroom.

The next morning, Caspian was up early and prepared breakfast.

After we ate, he picked up his car keys to drive me.

Sitting in the passenger seat felt strangely unfamiliar.

I couldn’t remember the last time I’d sat in his car.

Once, on a rainy day when I didn’t have an umbrella, I asked him to pick me up.

He’d frowned at me.

You’re an independent woman. Stop relying on men for everything.”

Isolde doesn’t do that. It’s just rain. You’ll survive.”

ater that day, I saw Isolde’s Instagram story.

Caspian picking her up, holding an umbrella over her head.

After that, I bought my own car.

And I never had another reason to sit in his.

n the car, afraid I might be bored, he played music I liked and tried to make conversation.

just smiled and responded politely.

hen Isolde called.

aspian looked flustered, glancing at me repeatedly.

said, calmly. “Answer it.”

ler voice filled the car.

Caspian, I’m ready. Come get me?”

le scrambled to respond.

Isolde-ul, can you just grab an Uber? I’m kind of busy.”

was genuinely surprised.

le’d never turned her down before.

he clearly wasn’t expecting it either.

Ah-Hual, you know my place is hard to get a ride from. And you always used to pick me up. What’s different today?”

If you don’t come, I’ll just have to walk.”

lis face flickered with hesitation.

n the past, he would’ve pulled over immediately and told me to get out.

We’re downtown. You can catch a ride easily.”

Isolde’s place is hard to get to. I need to go get her. Just grab an Uber.”

saw the struggle in his eyes and spoke first.

It’s fine. Go get her. Just drop me off at the next corner.”

What about you? Forget it. I’ll take you there first.”

I smiled.

“I can get a cab. It’s okay. Really. Pull over here.”

He hesitated, but stopped the car anyway.

After I got out, he looked at me through the window.

“I’ll be home early tonight. I promise.”

I nodded.

He looked at me with concern.

“Are you sure you can get a ride here? I can skip picking her up. It’s fine-”

I waved him off.

“Go. Don’t be late. That’s rude.”

His car drove away, leaving behind a trail of exhaust.

Five days.

In five days, I’d be gone.

When I got home, I scrolled through my feed and saw a video from last night’s engagement party.

Rafferty kissing his fiancée. Everyone cheering.

Then the camera panned to Caspian and Isolde.

Someone shouted:

“Caspian! Your turn, man! A good woman’s right beside you. You better cherish her.”

As he said it, he looked meaningfully at Isolde. She blushed shyly.

Caspian, however, looked distracted in the video.

Then a message from him popped up.

“Did you see that video? They were just messing around. It was a joke. Please don’t he mad.”

I typed back:

“I saw it. It’s fine. Just a joke.”

He didn’t reply after that. Didn’t come home early either.

I didn’t wait for him. After dinner, I went to bed.

It was nearly noon the next day when he finally came back.

I was on the couch. Didn’t look up.

“I didn’t cook. If you’re hungry, order something.”

But he started explaining without me asking.

“Everyone was having too much fun last night. They wouldn’t let me leave. So I just crashed at the hotel.”

He’d stayed out plenty of times before.

Never explained once.

I gave a faint “Mm,” and continued watching TV.

He sat down next to me, rubbed his temples.

“So. When exactly are you planning to leave?”
