April Fools “Surprise” Husband Divorcing Me For His “Pure” Girl novel Chapter 83

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

That file?

My lawyer already handled it. Divorce papers.

Listed every shred of evidence-bigamy, embezzlement, all of it.

I got dressed and sat down on the couch.

“What did you expect?”

Lucas ripped his tie off. Slammed both hands on the armrest, face inches from mine. Voice barely holding together.

“Fine. You humiliated me at the party. I’ll take that.”

“You sold the company without a word. Didn’t even give me a heads-up.”

“You hate me that much? You’d burn the factory just to divorce me?”

I met his eyes. Watched him seethe.

Couldn’t even tell if he was pissed about losing the company and his reputation-or about the divorce itself.

Didn’t matter anyway.

I didn’t care anymore.

When I didn’t respond, a vein bulged on his forehead.

“Say something!”

I rubbed my ear. Kept my voice flat.

“You know exactly why.”

He frowned. Actually looked confused.

“Because of Jasmine?”

“I explained that. She’s a mistake. I’ll handle it. Why are you being so dramatic?”

“What the hell do you even get out of divorcing me?”

I laughed. Couldn’t help it.

He forgot marriage requires loyalty.

I’ll never forget how disgusting it felt to touch him again after I gave him that “second chance.”

Just thinking about him made me nauseous.

But back then we were $200K in debt. Neither of us could afford to leave.

Chapter 6

Staying married was the smart move.

So we kept going. Year after year.

My body went numb. My brain caught up.

Treat him like a tool. No emotions. Surface-level peace.

It worked.

Until Jasmine showed up.

Young college girl. Bubbly. Made me look pathetic. Suddenly even making money was a crime.

Yeah, divorce cost me a fortune.

But it bought me a new life. I’m done shrinking myself.

I opened my mouth to answer-

Phone buzzed on the table.

“Chloe, just landed in Malé. Drinks?”

Lucas glanced at the screen. His face twisted. Half-smile, all venom.

“Oh. So it’s him.”

“Chloe, no matter how bad things got, I never wanted a divorce.”

I almost rolled my eyes. Benson White-total playboy-texting at the worst possible moment.

Tried to explain. Realized it’d sound worse.

So I didn’t.

Lucas took my silence as confirmation.

His hand flew up. Slapped me hard.
