Upon entering the suite, Damian loosened his tie and casually tossed his jacket onto the sofa.

“I’ll take the first shower. You still have time to change your mind.”

Scarlett stood frozen near the doorway, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs as his words sank in.

The urge to flee tugged at her, yet her legs felt strangely rooted to the spot.

Damian noticed her internal struggle but didn’t press further, disappearing into the bathroom without another word.

Part of him expected Scarlett would be gone by the time he finished.

But when he stepped out, clean and refreshed, she was still there-rooted in the living area as if held by some invisible thread.

Seeing she hadn’t run, Damian’s brow furrowed slightly. He was about to speak when Scarlett suddenly said, “I’ll take my shower now.”

With that, she slipped into the bathroom, leaving him alone with his thoughts.

Damian lit a cigarette by the floor-to-ceiling window, exhaling slowly as conflicting emotions churned inside him.

A few minutes later, Scarlett emerged. She noticed Damian standing by the window, smoke curling around him, but said nothing.

After towel-drying her hair, she finally looked toward his silhouette and said quietly, “I’m going to bed.”

Then, letting her robe fall, she slid naked beneath the covers. The white duvet draped softly over her, its gentle contours hinting at the delicate form beneath.

Suddenly, Damian choked on his smoke and broke into a harsh cough.

Through the window’s reflection, he saw Scarlett lying still on the bed-a vision of surrender and tension all at once.

Stubbing out his cigarette, he finally moved toward the bed.

Scarlett heard his footsteps and squeezed her eyes shut even tighter.

Damian stood beside the bed, looking down at her. Her hair fanned across the white pillow-a

stark, beautiful contrast. The covers hid most of her, but the shape of her shoulders and the elegant line of her collarbones were still visible.

His gaze drifted lower, tracing the rhythmic rise and fall of her chest beneath the fabric.

The soft curves were impossible to ignore.

His throat felt dry. He wet his lips before reaching for the light switch.

He turned off the main lights, leaving only the dim glow of a bedside lamp that cast long shadows across the room.

Sitting on the edge of the mattress, he spoke softly, “Are you absolutely sure about this?”

Scarlett kept her eyes closed. “Yes.”

Damian opened his mouth to say more, but just then, the distinct sound of someone working the hotel room’s lock came from the door.

He turned his head-and could just make out the silhouette of Vincent standing in the hallway, his face obscured by shadows, emotions unreadable.

In one swift motion, Damian pulled the covers up, fully concealing Scarlett beneath them.

She stayed perfectly still, not making a sound.

The reality crashed into her-on paper, she was still Vincent’s legal wife. They had a marriage certificate. They had a daughter.

Their relationship was shattered, but the legal ties remained.

What she was doing now wasn’t just rebellion—it was a slap in Vincent’s face.

Even if he didn’t love her, wouldn’t his pride revolt?

Once Scarlett was hidden, Damian rested a hand lightly on the small of her back and looked lazily toward the door. “Mr. Stewart, what a surprise. What brings you here?”

His tone was deceptively calm, almost challenging.

Vincent stood at the threshold, his sharp gaze falling on the chair where Damian’s outerwear, Scarlett’s jeans, cotton shirt, jacket-and even her underwear-lay tangled together.

The careless mix of garments left little to the imagination.

Under the covers, Scarlett’s heart raced. She could only imagine the cold fury building in

Vincent.

Would he take it out on the Theron family? Or crush her completely?

He was Vincent-proud, ruthless. Could he really stand to see his wife in another man’s bed?

The silence stretched, thick and heavy. Vincent didn’t speak for what felt like an eternity.

Each second amplified the pounding in Scarlett’s chest, as if her heart might break free from her ribs.

Finally, Vincent stepped into the room. His fierce eyes locked onto Damian’s hand resting possessively on Scarlett’s back.

In the dim light, his handsome features were taut-but the expected explosion of rage never

came.

He only growled her name. “Scarlett. You have two minutes to come out.”

With that, he turned to leave.

But then Damian spoke again, unexpectedly, “Got something to say, Mr. Stewart? Why not say it here and now?”

Vincent paused. Ignoring Damian entirely, he directed his words toward the bed. “Scarlett, you now have about seventy seconds left.”

It wasn’t a request-it was an order. One she didn’t dare refuse.

Even without visible anger, Scarlett knew the consequences of defiance.

If Vincent truly lost his composure, he could dismantle the Theron family without a second thought.

So Vincent withdrew, leaving the door ajar. Through the opening, they could clearly see him still waiting outside-a silent, formidable sentinel.
