The housekeeper stared in astonishment. Most women who came here were either emotional, dramatic, or desperate for attention. But this visitor remained perfectly composed-and wanted to return gifts?
Recovering her professional demeanor, the housekeeper replied, “Mr. Langley never accepts returned gifts. If you truly wish to-”
Before she could complete the sentence, Scarlett raised her phone and began recording. Speaking clearly for the camera, she stated, “I have returned all items requiring return. I’ve notified the housekeeper and requested signed confirmation. Any loss or damage occurring from this moment forward is not my responsibility.” She systematically displayed each bracelet in the recording.
Without another word, Scarlett turned and walked away.
The housekeeper gaped at the collection of luxury boxes scattered across the marble steps. By the time she gathered her wits to call after the retreating figure, Scarlett had already disappeared.
With a resigned sigh, the housekeeper carefully gathered the precious packages. These weren’t ordinary trinkets-they represented fortunes that could bankrupt her if anything went missing.
From her concealed position around the corner, Scarlett watched until every box was safely inside. Only then did she release the breath she’d been holding, a weary sigh escaping her lips.
A week later, an evening call came from Xavier.
“Scarlett, come to Stewart Manor. I need your assistance.”
Agreeing readily, Scarlett drove directly there after work.
She found Xavier waiting alone.
After sharing a meal, he came straight to the point. “I’ve prepared some gifts. I want you to visit the patient at the Lennox Manor as my representative.”
Anticipating refusal, he added persuasively, “Consider it humoring me.”
Scarlett saw through his scheme immediately. He knew perfectly well about the tension between her and Vincent and constantly sought reconciliation.
With Vincent holding a grudge over Daniel’s mother’s situation, this visit was clearly designed to ease hostilities. Though this was Xavier’s idea, she knew he’d present it to Vincent as her own initiative.

She understood his good intentions, but the effort felt futile. Eventually, she’d need to step aside for Sabrina.
Vincent’s delayed divorce signature likely stemmed from timing considerations rather than reluctance.
After brief consideration, she declined. “Grandpa, Vincent should go. My presence at the Lennox Manor wouldn’t be welcome. If I inadvertently upset the patient, the consequences would be unforgivable.”
Xavier remained adamant. “You’re going.”
Recognizing his determination, Scarlett reluctantly acquiesced, though her displeasure showed clearly.
Xavier directed the housekeeper to load the gifts into Scarlett’s car. After repeated safety reminders, he saw her off.
Fastening her seatbelt with a resigned nod, Scarlett drove away.
Arriving at the Lennox Manor, she wasn’t entirely surprised to see Vincent’s car parked outside -given his close friendship with Daniel, his presence was expected.
Laden with gift bags, she entered to find Daniel’s mother, Madeline Lennox, seated in an armchair, a hat covering her post-surgery head and a blanket across her lap. Vincent and Sabrina flanked her like devoted attendants.
Engrossed in conversation, the trio didn’t notice Scarlett’s arrival.
Madeline clasped Sabrina’s hand, her eyes crinkling with affection. “Sabrina, Daniel told me how much you sacrificed for my surgery. Lowering yourself to beg others for help… I’m deeply moved. Remember, no matter what happens, I’ll always support you. If Vincent ever mistreats you, come straight to me. Daniel and I will always have your back.”
Sabrina’s cheeks pinkened as she ducked her head. “Madeline, Vincent and I aren’t officially together yet.”
Madeline patted her hand reassuringly. “Vincent’s a good man. Stay by his side-I promise he’ll make it official.”
Sabrina’s blush deepened, her gaze dropping further.
Vincent, sitting slightly apart, seemed absorbed in his phone, barely acknowledging the conversation.
But when he glanced up, his eyes connected with Scarlett’s. She stood slightly flushed from

Vincent’s brow furrowed in silent inquiry, but Scarlett pointedly ignored him. Instead, she turned to Madeline, her voice calm and even. “Mrs. Lennox.”
She maintained perfect composure, showing no reaction to finding Vincent and Sabrina together with the patient. Her expression remained unreadable as she stood waiting.
