Chapter 128 Damian’s Extravagance

Was this all just some elaborate game to him?

Scarlett knew Damian only in the most superficial sense-the public persona everyone saw.

She never permitted herself to believe his feelings could be genuine.

Even when he flirted and joked about their future together, she always brushed it off as meaningless charm.

A man like Damian, who moved through the highest echelons of society-why would he ever seriously court a divorced mother?

Lost in these thoughts, she was startled when Clara tugged at her sleeve. “Auntie, what’s in the box?”

Scarlett blinked, returning to the present. She approached Clara with a soft smile. “Shall we find out together?”

Clara settled beside the dining table, chin propped in her hands, eyes wide with anticipation.

When Scarlett lifted the lid, another exquisite bracelet gleamed up at them. This piece wasn’t emerald but carved from premium diamond-the quality so fine it seemed almost unreal.

Under the chandelier’s glow, the bracelet emitted a subtle, sophisticated radiance. Clara gasped, “It’s so pretty! Who gave it to you, Auntie?”

Scarlett stared, momentarily speechless. Though no expert in fine jewelry, even she could recognize exceptional craftsmanship. The stone’s texture was impeccably smooth.

While not particularly drawn to luxury accessories, she immediately understood this piece’s staggering value-likely matching or exceeding the previous emerald bracelet.

Recognizing its worth, she instinctively moved to secure it. Just then, Nathan’s cheerful voice carried from the entrance. “I could hear the excitement from outside! Found something special? Maybe your aunt can take you jewelry shopping someday.”

“Daddy!” Clara scrambled down and dashed to the door.

Nathan scooped her up, tapping her nose affectionately. “So what has my girl so fascinated today?”

Clara clung to his collar. “Someone sent Auntie the most beautiful bracelet! It looks like something from a fairy tale!”

Carrying Clara into the living room, Nathan approached the table. “Let’s see this magical treasure then.”

His smile vanished the moment his eyes fell upon the bracelet.

Setting Clara down gently, he spoke in a carefully measured tone, “Clara, why don’t you go draw upstairs for a bit? I need to talk with Auntie privately.”

Clara, sensitive to his changed demeanor, simply nodded and scampered upstairs.

Scarlett felt unease coiling in her stomach as she watched Nathan’s expression harden.

Once they were alone, he turned to her. “Who sent this?”

Scarlett met his gaze squarely. “Damian, most likely.”

Nathan’s face darkened. “Do you have any concept of what this is worth?”

She shook her head silently.

“Yesterday at the charity gala auction-Damian won this with a single bid of two hundred million. No one even challenged him.” Nathan’s voice was tight.

Scarlett’s mind reeled. Two hundred million dollars? For a bracelet?

Collecting herself, she reached for the box. “I’ll return it immediately.”

“Wait.” Nathan stepped closer, his expression softening with brotherly concern.

“Scarlett, both Vincent and Damian are dangerous territory. We’ve seen how the Vincent situation ended. I don’t oppose you dating, but please choose wisely. With men like Damian, you can never discern their true intentions. His entire circle knows him as volatile and unpredictable.”

He paused, choosing his words carefully. “Perhaps I’m being selfish, but I want you to have a normal, stable relationship where I can actually protect you. If you get involved with Vincent or Damian…”

Tears glistened in Scarlett’s eyes as she interrupted softly. “I understand, Nathan.”

She offered him a grateful smile, the unspoken words passing between them.

Some truths didn’t need articulation.

After careful consideration, Scarlett decided against confronting Damian directly. Instead, she gathered every gift he’d ever sent and drove to his estate.

The housekeeper who answered the door immediately assessed the situation through narrowed eyes.

Damian constantly had women appearing at his doorstep-some crying, others demanding attention.

Assuming Scarlett was just another admirer, the housekeeper made to shut the door.

“Please give these to your employer,” Scarlett said quickly, recognizing the misunderstanding.
