Chapter 148 Birthday Remembrance
Melinda’s teasing caused Scarlett’s ears to flush crimson.

“Melinda, stop joking around.” Scarlett nudged Melinda’s elbow gently, attempting to maintain a composed expression.
Melinda understood Scarlett wasn’t particularly adventurous in romance, but she couldn’t resist pressing further. “Just consider it, will you? You can’t remain hung up on one person forever. You’ve tried Vincent-why not give someone new a chance? Life becomes monotonous without variety. Besides, he’s the one who betrayed your trust first.”
Scarlett pressed her lips together, forcing a faint smile. “Let’s change the subject. I’d rather not discuss this anymore.”
Recognizing Scarlett’s discomfort, Melinda dropped the matter.
They continued strolling through the evening streets, sampling various local Rivergate delicacies from food stalls.
Around ten o’clock, Melinda finally declared herself tired and ready to return to her hotel.
Scarlett drove her to the hotel entrance, but just before Melinda exited the car, she suddenly remembered something. Digging through her bag, she retrieved a small, elegantly wrapped box and handed it to Scarlett. “This is for you. I remembered your birthday is approaching.”
Scarlett’s eyes moistened as she accepted the gift. “Thank you, Melinda.”
Since marrying Vincent, she had severed ties with the Theron family. Each year, Violet would secretly send birthday wishes and transfer a substantial sum of money.
But beyond Violet, no one else remembered her birthday anymore.
It had been years since Scarlett had properly celebrated the occasion.
Had Melinda not mentioned it, Scarlett would have completely forgotten her twenty-seventh birthday was merely days away.
Melinda understood the sorrow in Scarlett’s heart. She embraced her tightly and advised, “Be kinder to yourself from now on. If someone doesn’t deserve space in your heart, don’t permit them to remain there.”
Scarlett leaned against her shoulder and murmured, “I will.”
Then, somewhat abruptly, she asked, “By the way, Nolan is also in Rivergate. Don’t you want to see him?”

Melinda’s smile faded instantly. She shook her head firmly. “No. I still remember how thoroughly he rejected my confession.”

During her final-year internship, Melinda had mustered the courage to confess her feelings to Nolan.
Very few people knew about this incident-Scarlett being among the privileged few.
Nolan had declined her advances, stating he wasn’t interested in dating at that time.
After that rejection, Melinda had never contacted Nolan again.
Scarlett respected Melinda’s decision. “Alright, I won’t pressure you to meet him.”
Melinda stepped out of the car, stood by the door, and told Scarlett, “Drive safely now. Message me when you arrive home.”
Scarlett didn’t return to Ravenshade Villa until eleven that night.
Assuming Vanessa would already be asleep, she moved quietly upstairs, minimizing any noise.
But when she opened Vanessa’s bedroom door, she found the bed empty.
A wave of panic washed over Scarlett. She checked Vincent’s room-still no sign of Vanessa.
Hearing the commotion upstairs, Lily hurried up to investigate.
Seeing Scarlett’s distressed expression, Lily quickly explained, “Mrs. Stewart, Mr. Clarke took Vanessa out this evening. It was under Mr. Stewart’s instructions.”
Scarlett breathed a sigh of relief but pressed further, “Where did Abbott take Vanessa?”
Lily thought momentarily before responding, “Since it was Mr. Stewart’s arrangement, I didn’t inquire specifically. But from what Mr. Clarke mentioned, I believe they went to meet with Mr. Stewart.”
Scarlett understood immediately. They weren’t merely visiting Vincent-they were obviously going to see Sabrina.
Still concerned about Vanessa’s wellbeing, she stated, “I’ll call Vincent directly.”
Returning to her bedroom, Scarlett dialed Vincent’s number.
He answered relatively quickly.
“Has Vanessa arrived safely?” Scarlett asked directly.

Vincent confirmed, “Yes, she just got here.”
Simultaneously, Scarlett could clearly hear Vanessa and Sabrina chatting happily in the background.
Though she couldn’t distinguish their exact words, Vanessa’s delighted laughter was unmistakable.
Unable to bear listening further, Scarlett said curtly, “Alright, I’m ending the call.”
But Vincent interjected suddenly, “Scarlett, there’s something I need to discuss with you.”
He rarely speaks to her so gently.
Scarlett paused briefly before responding coldly, “Whatever you intend to do, just proceed. You don’t require my approval.”
Before Vincent could elaborate, Scarlett terminated the call.
She sat on the sofa, clutching her phone, lost in thought for a considerable time.
Then her phone screen illuminated-an incoming call.
Assuming it was Vincent calling back, she was surprised to see Nolan’s name displayed.
“Nolan,” she answered, striving to sound composed.
Nogan detected her subdued tone but refrained from probing. He simply stated, “It’s the weekend tomorrow. Would you like to study at the library together?”
Scarlett didn’t decline. “What time?”
“Ten o’clock,” Nolan specified.
Scarlett agreed promptly.
She was preparing for graduate school examinations, and time was growing short. However, with Vanessa’s recent illness, she had neglected her studies considerably.
